~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I think that my son told me he has done the 1st PFA or at least a "practice run" of it? would that be right? I have gotten what he told me a little mixed up on the PFA.
MomThatLovesHerSon: The good thing about the swimming exercises they have to pass is that they only have to pass them once. However, the run, pushups and situps have to be passed in the 3rd PFA (physical fitness assessment) no matter what they did on the first two PFAs.
So once your son gets that float done, he is good to go!
ellen0502, thanks for the information! I was so happy to hear my son's voice!!!!
MomThatLovesHerSon, The prone float seems to be a very common for SRs to not pass (no fat to float), my son also failed this when he was there, but your SR will get lots of help on this one.
This is how my son described it. It is a stomach float, face in the water lifting the head up to breathe. It is difficult to stay in the prone float position when breathing without the rest of you sinking, and then too much energy is spent getting back to the floating position. You have to be able to get your head up to breathe and stay in the float position.
Hey everybody,
I just got my 1st phone call from my son!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He sound a little tired, but he said that was from just marching. The call was about 15 min long. He said the food was good, that he was making friends, that there was 1 swimming test that he did not pass, the prone float? He said he was on day of training 1-5 or that it was yesterday. He told me not to send packages. I already know not to because I read it on N4M! He said that PIR could change if he doesn't pass everything on time. I already knew that PIR could change because I read it on N4M! He said they were marching recently and it starting snowing. He sounded tired, but it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good to hear his voice !!!! Woo Hoo !!!!!
diannep such kinds words all of it has kept my mind occupied. Continued prayers to all and to our SR's
Good Morning! It is a beautiful day....but not nearly as beautiful as it must be for the people of Boston waking up this morning! God Bless all of the people involved with bringing this horrible tragedy to a "close" and many prayers/blessings for the victims/families as they grieve and recover. You have a nation behind you every step of the way!
B'sWife: Yep, that's about right! Many at this point in bootcamp are made to feel they can do nothing right! Lots of yelling about missing little details....Keep encouraging him....because it does get better...and he will finally realize how much he actually has done right!
Welcome aboard B's Wife (this Navy lingo is awesome, love the acronyms)..my son is Ship 12 with Jana's son. Letter writing is great..I am seeing my sons personality on the page..funny, you just don't get that from a text!! Best wishes to you and your future sailor :)
