room mother, that is cute :-) Dianne and the rest of us have been called lots of different things lol. Dianne remember the group that called us the Oz's? They said we were like the wonderful and powerful Oz in Wizard of Oz, I said pay no attention to that man behind the curtain lol. Room mother, Oz, Den mother, veteran moms, we have been called lots of things lol.

Haa! room mother.. I love it..!

And mamaCindy..  the actor personality! Oh I so relate! That would be my boys all they way. I cringe to think of the interesting things they would do with that flag. I pretty much never had to correct them for being disrespectful, but Monkeys!!  now that is another story.

KCsMom:  I think you will come across more inspirational stories of SRs in RCU as your son is there.  It is amazing how hard they work to get through this and become sailors.  Think positively!  This appears to be a MOUNTAIN in his path right now to get over, but when it is all said and done...and he is a sailor....you all will look back at it as a bump in the road.

MamaCindy:  Hi!  "Room Mother Dianne" here.....HA!  So funny!

Ok, on the flags.  I believe a division can earn up to 4 flags, but not POSITIVE.  The"mother of all flags"...is the Hall of Fame flag.  The overall outstanding one where they scored the highest marks. That is the one they want the most.  The flags are carried by "sticks", what the recruits who carry them are called.  They usually look for the shorter guys to do this (would be my son...but they didn't "trust him"---actor personality, you know...God only knows what he would have done with that flag! :-).  They are up in front of the divisions so easy to see!

I will keep looking for more specific info!  I can't ask my now-stationed son...he has refused to answer any more questions about bc!  I must have raised him wrong....hummpff....so I have to get my info from others on here, what I already knew from our experience, and research.  So...I'll let you know.

Diannep - Could you tell us a little about the flags the divisions can earn and what determines if they earn them or not and who carries them, etc? OR if there's a place we can read about them, point us in the right direction? I haven't come across that info but have seen various flags referred to here and know that my son's DIV has earned 2 that I know of. THANKS!

Does anyone else refer to Diannep as "our room mother"? She's such a big help and when I tell my friends or family something she has explained to us, that's what I call her! : ) What a blessing! We're almost there!

Pianomom- no, he was being very positive on the phone during the whole 60 seconds we had. He said "it could be worse" and that's about all he said.   I hope that he can heal there and not be sent home. I get the idea that they are given ample time to recuperate and if they don't make progress they are medially discharged. So, I'm praying that he heals quickly.  I know this is what he wants!!!

KC'smom--when you said "i don't want him to come home"--he doesn' t want to come home, does he?  if he doesn't, can he recuperate there and then resume?   how does that work?  i will continue to pray.   hopefully, you have some sort of support group where you live so you can talk and cry, etc.

okay, I won't go away. I'm so sick about my son, i couldn't even go to work today. I am just sick to my stomach. I don't want him to come home, I just wish this didn't happen to him. There is a young girl there at ship 4 who broke her leg in January. She arrived there in November and was 1 week away from PIR. I have made friends with her sister. That poor girl is quite an inspiration to all of us!!!
