Cayster, I can relate to what you're going through since my son is sick and grad & go too.  In order to see him as much as we can we will follow him to the airport and stay with him till he flies out.  He will be in Fire Control Electronics on a sub.

Dianne, I read your comments to Cayster and I really benefit from them too.  Thanks.

Hello to all,

I got home from work yesterday and had a letter waiting for me from my daughter she seems to be doing a lot better she told me this week is hell week and she will be up at 4am have alot going on including inspections will be a very busy week for them all.

Happy Friday to all and a safe Memorial Day Weekend!

Cayster:  Try and stay positive.  No matter what time you get with your new sailor, it will be precious.  For all of you!  Hopefully he will have until at least Sat before flying out.  Since he is sick right now, the negative thoughts come in because he doesn't feel well.  Hoping he is recovered soon and back with his group...that will help alot.

It is actually Grad N Go, but I get a kick out of those who say "Grab N Go" because I know that is what all of you want to do with them!  :-) and, Sunny is so right.  "A" School is a totally different situation...so much better because communication is back with your new sailors.  It is more like a college atmosphere.  They enjoy it much more!

Hang in there...it gets better!

pianomom, my daughter could swim like a fish since she was a tiny little thing but she could never float. She practiced and tried before she left but she still couldn't do it. I was so worried about it. But they showed her how to do it and helped her with it and she did just fine. Try not to worry, I am sure he will get it, they will work with him until he does :-)

Cayster16... I know this falls short of having them face to face for the weekend. But at least they get to have their cell phone and lap tops, so we won't be cut off from communication as much as we have. Our son bought us skype for Christmas when he left for college 9 hrs. away, and it has really helped us to feel like he is a whole lot closer. I also read that you can go into the airport with them and sit and wait. They have to be there a few hours early and they allow you to have a pass to go down to the gate and wait with them.

My son leaves the next morning after graduation. He will prob. have to head to the airport between 3-5am whooppee!  ugh

He is ship 11, div 203 going to Florida, Aviation Electronics.. so Audrey your son knows he is a grab & go?  Ours wasn't certain... So they must be telling so prepare them..

Wow! I feel kind of guilty after hearing of the troubles both moms and SRs are having.  But, I got a letter from my SR today.  It was pretty long (for him).  He was very upbeat and was joking about having some medical tests. He had an ultrasound and said, "Good news, mom! I'm not pregnant!" (wiseass)  He's a little homesick but seems to be taking all of the hard work in stride.  It was so good to hear him on Tuesday and to read his letter today and see that he is his usual warped, weird self. Mine is grad-n-go also Cayster.  We will just have to squeeze the snot out of them the few hours we get them in our clutches! lol  Where is yours going to A school?

I too got an latter today that was discouraging.  He has been sick for the past week they had him stay in his "rack" for 3 days.  He states he is starting to feel better but very home sick, understandable since he is not at home & sick, growing up is hard....  The most disturbing part of his letter was he stated that they have mentioned he possibly is a "grab and go" so will fly out the night of graduation.  His dad and I are devastated with this news but will of course be positive if this is the case. Just trying to get my head back in the right place... Only a few hours with him is killing me..  I was so looking forward to "the weekend".  Any words of  encouragement would be greatly appreciated at this time..

Thank you dianne.   KC hope you're better soon.  I had the same thing happen to me six years ago.  I wish for you fast healing.  Goodnight and sleep well everyone.

Thank you!!  I am non-weight bearing and was scheduled to work all Memorial Weekend, so this injury has taken away from my vacation hours as well as inconveniencing some poor other nurse who will have to work for me, last minute on a holiday w/e. I feel absolutely horrible. But, it won't interfere w/ PIR. I will either be all better ( I hope) or will hobble in on my crutches.
