squeekerz--please keep hanging in there for him, just like diannep said.    yes, you miss him and he misses you.  but the alternatives are so few these days with the job market like it is.  and he is SO CLOSE to the finish line.  .i will be praying for both of you guys in these last 3 weeks.

Well said, Dianne.  When my son joined the Army (years ago) I got the same kind of phone call from boot camp.  I convinced him to give it a chance and even though he chose not to re-enlist in the Army he did go Navy Reserves after his inactive reserves time was up in the Army.  He says he is glad he didn't give up; if for no other reason, for personal pride and sense of accomplishment.  It gave him an advantage in civilian life, too.  School, buying a home, getting a job, keeping benefits like cheap car insurance....it's so worth a few years of your life!

Yeah... I guess I won't...  but after hearing that's how he felt... all my doubts are back.

We're engaged... but the more I think about it... the more I fear...  and this is probably the 5th time I've thought of just giving up and telling him after he graduates that I can't do it.  I'm not strong enough... I keep trying... but I have mental issues and the military life just seems too hard for me...

Comment by diannep on May 25, 2011 at 6:52pm

Squeekerz:  PLEASE don't say anything...let him "vent."  No one should be deciding about the military by their experience in bootcamp.  Their emotions are all over the place.  I don't know how long he enlisted for, but encourage him that he can make that...and in the process, he may really like it and want to try and re-enlist (not so easy to do these days with so many in).  Or maybe he will do his time and get out.

Military life is not for the faint of heart, for sure.  But it is a wonderful testament to the character of these men and women.  I would try not to say anything negative to him...only positive things.  Is this your husband?  I have been watching the series "Coming Home" on Lifetime on Sunday nights, 10 pm EST.  I so admire those military wives and their strength...it is amazing how strong these women are.  I'm sure that each of these women started out feeling like they can't do this...and maybe even still struggle with it at times.  But watching this show...which covers all of the branches of the military...wow, I cry tears of joy and pride.

Chin up...remember....his feelings and emotions are all over the place right now.I know yours probably are too...but there is an end to this emotional rollercoaster, I promise!

....   I have a question.  I don't know what to do.  He wrote his mother two letters, the first one really depressed, saying he didn't know if the military life is what he thought it was...  That he doesn't want to miss his kids growing up. He was really upset about it...   The second letter was more upbeat.   My question is.... should I say anything, because I sorta feel the same way.

I'm just believing the mail system was backed up..!!  and will wait for Miss Mail Girl on the lawn again tomorrow..  But hey! I made friends with her... :)  never talked much to here since I was never really waiting at the mail box for anything else when she drove by. It's nice.. her brother is in the navy too!  Doesn't that figure!

Joy- I suppose there are 2 mailmen...um, letter carrier! hahaha. Unless, he had to pass the torch to your girl and move on to a different job. I hope not, he loves that job!  hahaha. Stress free.
