hey ladies--do you have a few minutes and miss your SR like crazy?  Go back on these posts to day 1 and re-read all the things we wrote.  I was laughing out loud all over again!   (the bra thing is priceless)

MamaCindy--i just typed it in on this site up on the right where it says:  Navy Speak--Define, and it tells what marlinspike is.  As i understand it, they have to learn skills there that they will have to use on a real ship later (and of course, at battlestations 21)

Diannep - Can you explain Marlin Spike to us?  I've tried to google it and looked it up on navy.mil but don't find what I'm looking for.  I understand our division "did Marlin Spike" but don't know what that entailed.  THANKS!

What a wonderful day! It's hot, but beautiful in Atlanta today and I'm counting down along with the rest of you! Wonderful report on my SR via a newly-made friend yesterday and I can't stop thanking God for what he is doing in my son's life. Praying for the tornado-torn parts of our country and those effected by the devastation. Time to go write and mail my letter!

There are several places like McDonalds and stuff like that to eat at near the Navy Lodge. Maybe 5-10 min away if that far. But if I remember correctly they were in the opposite direction of the base because the lodge is only a mile from base. The Navy lodge has a bag breakfast on PIR morning. It has a bagel, creme cheese, I think maybe some crackers and a juice box. Not the greatest but we were to excited to eat anyway.

Usually the recruits who receive those items are the ones who don't have family members on this site. We tell everyone not to do that. My daughter said when she was there one of the recruits received a box full of home made brownies. They made him do push-ups until they finished all the brownies. And they said for him to tell his mom they were very good, lol.

When it gets close to PIR many of the recruits will ask you to send something to them. Usually if they ask for you to send it then it means they can have it. You will be able to send contacts and a small (under 3oz) bottle of solution, and many of the girls will ask for some basic make-up, our daughter even had us send a hair straightener and small hair-dryer. She was in the preforming division. They are only allowed to have these items for pictures and PIR and it does depend on who the RDC is. So don't send them unless they ask you to. And wait until it is close to PIR. We sent them in a priority flat rate box and marked on the outside of the box what it was and that it was for PIR.

Now if they ask you to slip in a piece of gum or an airhead inside a letter, don't do it, lol. They are never allowed to have those and will get in lots of trouble if they get caught.

Ari'smom- You can't send any toiletries or they will be taken away.  My son said an SR in his ship got a box from his mom with magazines, Pringles, pudding cups, etc. and they took it all away from him and chewed him out.
