Thanks, Dianne....I'll just have to call the hotel back and ask about the PIR rate. I already got a discount but hey.....doesn't hurt to ask, right? I'll have to ask my daughter about whether she even volunteered the information that she played the flute......knowing her she probably didn't want to draw attention to herself! She is the mail PO, for what that's worth!
*Eagles have strong vision. They have the ability to focus on something up to five kilometers away. When an eagle sites his prey, he narrows his focus on it and set out to get it. No matter the obstacles, the eagle will not move his focus from the prey until he grabs it. They also have the ability to see things from very high up like a snake, and can swoop down and take him out in one quick move. YOU have a vision! remain focused no matter what the obstacle, go after it, and you will succeed.
*Eagles are the only bird that have the ability to fly straight into the sun. They have an extra eyelid that covers and protects their eyes. So when the little pecky birds go after them, they fly straight in the sun (or we could say SON of God) and all the enemy birds will fall away because they can't go that high. Which says the more you keep your thoughts thinking on the SON.. the higher in faith you will be and the enemy of worry, fear and failure will fall off!
*Eagles love the storm.
When clouds gather, the eagles get excited. The eagle uses the storm’s wind to lift it higher. Just think, if you didn’t have these challenges right now, you would never be stretched and strengthened to grow and change into this amazing strong man you are becoming. You would be the same guy, handling the same old stuff in the same old way. But God is using this storm and the Navy to really show you who you are in Him! When the storm heats up, you go higher! and you find out just how great and powerful he is.
Joy, not sure there is significance for most division numbers, but the 900 division is the one where those with music, drill team, singing or other experience usually are put if they want to use their talent. Also, the 800 division (not all PIR groups have one) is the "special ops" group...so, yes, that one does relate to their jobs.
The hotels usually offer a PIR discount. Some hotels may make that rate the same as the actual military discount rate. Be sure to check their AAA/AARP rates also if you have those discounts. We used AAA when there and saved a good amount. It is quite possible that some of the posts you saw were actually military families from before bootcamp. Some on here actually have other family members in a branch of the military. Spouses/children get the military rate also, I believe.
Dianne, your post was so informative! Although my daughter passed her physical the first time, it's so comforting to know that when they are faced with tough challenges there are steps in place to help them meet that challenge! No, she's not in the 900 division, she is 204. So, that leads to my question......what is the significance to the division numbers? Do they relate to their ratings?
Audrey: It is wonderful when they pass the PFA (Physical Fitness Assessment) the first time. Some do, some don't. But the really important one that they all must pass is the last one, right before BattleStations. No matter whether they passed before or not, they have to pass that one. Of course, if they passed before, most all will pass again. The run is usually the part that is hard for many of them. They must pass this test before they are allowed to do BattleStations (which is the final test before they become sailors). If they don't pass this before their division goes through BattleStations, they are usually made to call home (supervised call...and very scripted) saying that they did not pass the test, they will not graduate, don't come to PIR. This is heartbreaking for both the SR, of course, and for the families. But the reality is...they continue to be given opportunities to pass up until the day before PIR....if they pass that morning, they go through BattleStations that night with the next PIR group and are at PIR the next day, a sailor in uniform, but in the balcony after being up all night. A few don't pass by then, which means they miss PIR. They are in the FITT Division and stay there until they pass the test--they then do BattleStations with another PIR group and head to A School. One sailor I know of took 3 more weeks after her scheduled PIR to pass it, but when she did, she flew right to A School and is doing great. So glad that the RDCs rewarded his/her sailors by allowing them to call home after passing the PFA the first time...great motivation for them!
Audrey/meryl: NO question is a dumb one on here! So please ask any questions you have! We never mind answering the same questions over again either...
Joy: Your daughter sounds like a wonderful well-rounded SR! Is she in the 900 division? I was wondering because of her flute experience.
Donna: Hoping that your SR gets a rescue swimmer position!
