congratulations!!!  That's so awesome.  :)  I wonder when the ones that didn't excel will call home.

... I'm kind of happy though... because no news is good news, right? My SR was last in his division physically, and was at risk to be held back to July 27th! If he hasn't called, that means he's in the clear, right?

Happy happy joy joy!!!!!!!!  I got a phone call!  A few of them that excelled on their physical assesment today got to call home and got to go to the exchange and buy sweets.  (They have been banned from sweets until the division had done well.)  He has a little cold but he was upbeat and doing well.  What a blessing that call was! I pray that you all get a call very soon. God bless!!

Thanks, Lala.  I write to my son every day and/or send a card with a short note in it.  I've been doing it every day for 4 weeks now and was just thinking today - what else can I write?!  You're reminder that it doesn't matter really helped! Just write ...

I hope you all are writing lots and lots of letters. Write every day if you can. You can send letters in pretty much any normal size envelope. They say not to send anything that will draw attention to your Sailor like drawing on the back of the envelope or spraying with perfume for you wives and girlfriends lol. I sent a letter every day and wrote about everything from what the "terrible" neighbors were doing, to what the pets were doing. I even sent a letter from our cat to her. It was so funny and she loved it. They don't care what you write about as long as you write. Even those who said before they don't care about mail will change their mind and love hearing their name called at mail call. You can send a few pics preferably 4X6 or you can even print them on the back of your letters. No naughty pics allowed. Space is a concern so you can even send a bigger envelope for them to send their letters back to you for safe keeping. You can send self-addressed stamped envelopes, you can print labels with addresses of the people your SR writes to and send those as well as return address labels with your recruits address on them. All of this will save them time and give them more time for writing. When it gets close to PIR you can send their contacts and a small bottle of solution and some basic make-up for the girls. We even sent a hair straightener and hair-dryer that she asked us to send. They will only be allowed to use these items for pictures and PIR but they are allowed to receive them. The best way to send them is in a Priority flat rate box or bubble envelope sent Priority mail. They will have to open them in front of the RDC so don't send anything else. Most recruits will call or write and tell you what to send.

MamaCindy:  I think your wish for him most likely came true...they are "there"  for one another and all have had the feelings he was having.  So try not to worry...their emotions are up and down when there...crying one minute, laughing at the next.

AMEN, RWG!

I'm having a hard time not thinking about my crying "boy" last night at the end of our phone call and hoping beyond hope that his buddies had him laughing and in a better frame of mind very quickly.  I'm afraid that sound in his voice is going to stay with me until I get another upbeat letter.  I just need to overcome that!  I am so pleased with what he has said about his RDC's as well. Come on 30 days!

wow this stuff is a little overwhelming I can't stop thinking about the crying boy and the classy RDC How cool is that It just gives me so much peace of mind about where our kids are at..simply amazing

Thanks diannep, The RDCs do get a bum rap at times. Its got to be hard to wake up every morning and get in the RDC mode for the day. I doubt they are like that at home. If they were they wouldnt stay married very long LOL. I told my son not to take any of it personal. And to remember if the RDCs dont do their job like the Navy requires them to, they will have to answer to their superior.

Also, when they get calls they can usually call as many people as they want until their time runs out. So ask him in a letter to call you real quick first then he can have the rest of the time for his gf. Then at least you get a little time. In one call from my sailor she called me, her dad, grandparents, and her bf then she had more time left and called me back. I was one very happy mom that day :-)

Donna:  Find out if the gf can initiate a 3-way conversation with you the next time he calls her.  I know it isn't the same as talking to him alone, but at least you can talk with him.  I got this idea from a wonderful gf who was on this site in previous PIR group and did that often because she knew how much his mom wanted to speak with him.
