I was hoping to get a call today from my daughter, she is in her 3rd week of boot camp, I just want to hear her voice and make sure she is doing well, I did recieved a letter on Thurs, she did not say much she wished me a Happy Mothers day!  that she is really pushing, and staying busy from 5-10, she had told her sister she only had an hour to write a letter.

Does any one really know how many hours of free time they get on Sunday's?

is Sunday's there Holiday?

How encouraging, RWG.  Thanks for sharing that.  Classy RDC is right.

Also Rerobin, My son called today. He said that he saw a guy crying because he is homesick. He said the only people that saw him cry was my son and one of the RDCs. The RDC had a quiet talk with the guy and made him feel better. I think that was a classy act on the RDCs part. I told my son to offer as much encouragement that he can to the young man. Knowing my son he wont rest until he sees the recruit smiling again. They all have their moments. The trick is to not let it eat at them too long.

Redrobin, I bet she is already feeling better. Sometimes a good cry helps you get it together and are able to focus forward. Bless her heart. Prayers sent. Shes gonna be OK

Definitely tell her we're all rootin' for her!!!  I don't have enough candles to last with how many times I want to light them for all the recruits! :)

pianomom is totally correct.  They break them down (never a fun process) and then they build them back up into sailors.  The build back up process is less stressful for them and they finally realize that they ARE doing some things right...so prayers for all of them as they get through this tough part.  By week 4, things start to turn around a bit...and by week 6...they have their NAVY caps in their sights!

Wisdom teeth are removed (most of the time, although some are left in) so there are no problems at sea...whether on a ship or submarine!

Squeekerz:  A huge HUG to you for understanding that mamas need to hear from their babies!  You sound like a sweetheart!  :-)

redrobin:  Time to write her a letter ...tonight.  I can tell you...bootcamp is a unique experience.  It is shocking, hard, emotionallly tough, etc.  "A "School is SO much better for them.  Although the school part can be challenging as can any school, they have the comraderie of their shipmates with them...and they can breathe again.  They will "phase up" and get liberty...even eventually overnights on the weekends if there long enough. Please write her and tell her not to judge the Navy on bootcamp experiences.  Yes, they learn things there that they will carry with them through the Navy...but emotionally, it is not harder after bootcamp.  Mainly because contact with family and friends is now in place again!  HOOYAH!  Please write her and encourage her with these points.  And tell her...that we N4M ladies are rooting for her!  She's going to DO IT!

redrobin--i wish i could talk with your daughter.  probably ALL the moms wish they could talk with her.  all you moms who are praying for our kids, let's pray specifically for redrobin's girl--that somehow, she will get enough of a break to catch her breath tomorrow and get a different perspective.

i think you are exactly right--they are trying to break them down to make them ONE UNIT!   and apparently, that is not happening very easilyfor this group and another group i have heard of.

pianomom:  I think the water usage for the hotels on PIR day must about triple because of the LONG showers that the sailors all take...alone!  I think that was the highlight of my son's PIR day!  HA!

Redrobin, I'm sorry your daughter is sad.  It should get better though.  A friend of mine has a son who finished basic in October.  He cried and hated it too but he said that after the third week the RDC's started losening up, screaming less and things got better.  He admits Basic was horrible but once he graduated and finished A School he fell in love with the Navy.  He tells me he's having the best  time of his life.  I'll be praying for you and your daughter.  I'm still waiting on my first call from my son  I'll let you know how it goes.
