OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor on June 20, 2013 at 10:11am

Good Morning Ladies!  I'm Betsy and another "veteran" on here.  My sailor is my youngest son (out of our 5 children) and he is a CTT stationed in Bremerton, WA on the USS John C. Stennis, CVN 74.  His ship just returned from an 8 month deployment and is now fortunately in dry dock, so he will be land based for over a year.

Lala, I'm glad that you are starting to feel better now.

Our youngest son, whose 8, is really missing his big brother. He broke down last night and cried. He was so upset. It broke my heart. He got a little teary-eyed today. Going to show him extra love. We can't wait until PIR.

Proudmom 3: Wow, I can't believe your SR got food poisoning. Glad your SR is better. We are hoping for a letter tomorrow. Fingers-crossed that our son wrote. ;-)
