OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I literally just got off the phone with my son!!!!! 27 minute phone call. Sooooooo happy to hear his voice. I kept it together while talking to him, but balled like a baby when we hung up. ;)

Some highly recommended hotels to stay in according to past PIR groups:

Springhill Suites

Courtyard Inn

Residence Inn (we stayed in this one....great)

All of the above are close to each other in the Waukegan/Gurnee area, 4-5 miles from base, shuttle service to PIR available from them, and very close to Sarge's MeetandGreet held the night before PIR.

Navy Lodge Great Lakes....closest hotel to RTC.  Good rates.  Book in your SR's name and tell them you are there for Navy Graduation.

Be sure to ask for Navy Graduation rates at any of the hotels, but check this rate with AAA or any other discount you may be entitled to.  If you book through a discount travel website, remember....if you have to change or cancel in the event your SR is delayed in training or separated, you will be charged fees in most cases.  However if you book directly with the hotel, you will not have a Good Morning All !
