~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Welcome, ParkersMom!  Our suggestion to you is to book your reservation until Sunday, if at all possible.  He most likely will fly out on Saturday...they normally don't leave on PIR day, although their bus for the airport may leave late Fri evening or in the wee hours of Sat.  They are bussed out there to wait for flights which can be anytime on Saturday usually.

If you can't stay until Sunday, then try to book your flight later Sat afternoon/evening.  Just remember that if the sailors can't get flights on Saturday, sometimes the fly out on Sunday. So that is why we ask all to try and stay until Sunday if possible.  It is a neat place to sightsee in if your sailor leaves early!  That is what we did when we were there and my son flew out Sat. morning.  You are right near the Wisconsin line too, so there is sightseeing in both directions...Chicago and Wisconsin!

A word of warning in booking through a travel discount site.  They usually charge for changes/cancellations.  It is always possible for a SR to be delayed in training....or God forbid, separated and coming home.  Sooo....we suggest you book your hotel directly with that hotel....ask for the Navy Graduation rate (although we used our AAA rate which was a good one).  My son was delayed a week when he was there.  Had to change my flights....incurred a change fee as I didn't know about Southwest Airlines back then (they don't charge a change fee and 2 bags check for free!).  The new flights were cheaper so my $150 change fee (x 2) was more like $89 each.  But still....

Southwest flies into Chicago-Midway and into Milwaukee.  Milwaukee is closer and less traffic (45 min from GL, car rental is usually cheaper too).  Midway is an hour+  to GL depending on traffic but it IS one of the airports that the new sailors will be flying from in case you plan to meet your new sailor there and wait until the flight departs.

Good Morning to you all....

I have just gotten the information that my son's PIR date is 7-12-13..  This is all so new to me.  I was going to make a reservation for just one night at this point.  I was told by his recruiter that he will be leaving late on graduation day for Aschool most likely...  Any suggestions?

Good Morning All!

FTLW/ellen  You don't have to DIET....you just eat nothing but chocolate and water!  Yep!  Uh huh....ok, we have to quit being silly here....these new ladies in this group don't know us yet...and they may wonder what they have gotten themselves into!  We don't want to scare them!   :-)

Welcome to the new members!  We N4Moms veterans really ARE here to help you.  We just lose focus sometimes...especially when someone mentions CHOCOLATE!  Sigh....Please be sure to read through the PAGES section above under the MEMBERS photo box.  LOTS of info there for you.  If you have questions after reading it, please post them here!
