Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!
Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!
Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

You are so welcome! I have been reading here that that first real call home is hard for all of them. I think many of them cry--- they just realize all of a sudden when they get us on the phones that they really really miss us. It just warms my heart to know how much they love us--and they are going to be better now after today :)

taysproudmom - thanks so much for your message. Makes me feel a little better. My daughter's dad just kept trying to be positive and lift her up because she was crying so much she really couldn't talk and he said it was hard to understand her. I'm sure she will be fine. I've been writing her and can't wait to get a letter from her. Thanks again for your encouragement.

Just got my first call from my son, he is doing good! Made some friends with an oklahoma boy. Dont remember his name I was so excited to hear his voice. A little homesick, but I talked up and made hime excited. He sounded good by the end of conversation. Talk to him in two weeks! Miss him everyday!

We received a call from our son today. It was soooo good to hear from him. Seems to be doing well

Sailormomjulie I am not sure about the daughters, but my son actually cried the first 5 min of his call too. When I said "hello" he instantly started crying-- and that is not like him. I instantly was worried that he had been hurt. I said- are you ok? and after he regained composure, he said he just had it hit him all at once when he heard my voice how badly he missed us. He was able to talk then, and told me he was actually doing great-- it is just the homesickness that hits them unexpectedly. After these first few calls they get better-- plus they will start getting their letters too. I told him to count Fridays too, and he though that was a great idea. He said overall it is really a good experience-- they are just really tired and really out of their comfort zone right now. I think whether son or daughter, they are all going through that, and I am confident now that it will get better now that they were able to talk to us :)

I was at the gym and missed my daughter's call! She left May 29. Thank God her dad didn't miss her call. BUT he said she cried the whole 15 mins:( She's doing okay but she cried the whole time! My heart hurts for her. She just said it was really hard. Are there any moms out there that have daughters in boot camp? Is this normal? I feel so bad I missed her call but I'm so glad she was able to talk to her dad!

God must have been watching over me--my boss let me leave a few hours early because things were slow--10 minutes later I received a phone call from my son! I would have missed that call. It was so wonderful to hear his voice!
