Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Should add that Navy Lodge is about a mile from RTC gate.

cindilouwho: Navy Lodge is in the housing area of the base, but not actually ON the base meaning you still have to enter RTC for PIR through the gates. With your good Marriott rate (my son used to have that too when he worked for them...wonderful!), you may want to consider Courtyard Inn, Springhill Suites, or Residence Inn. These are all close together, close to Sarge's MeetandGreet, about 4-5 miles from RTC. They are in the Waukegan area. We stayed at Residence and loved it...pet friendly too!

Son put on his list for graduation mom, two first name no last name. I wrote to him and told him put first and last names. Lol waiting for call will tell him again. He thinks everyone should know mom. Lol. I still miss him two fridays down! Waiting on call.

My SR is Ship 4: Div. 283. I've only seen one other person so far in the same division here. I have taken Aug. 1-4th off to be there for his graduation. The day before I'll fly in (anytime it's cheapest for me and my daughter). And stay until whenever on that Sunday (I will fly out sometime that day because he's staying there for 3 more weeks of training).
I haven't booked flights yet. Navy Lodge is on the facility grounds itself? (need to research options). Because my family can get Marriott at family rate (about 45 a night). But transportation will be an issue for me if my daughter can't make it. I had planned on flying out to her...we would drive her car up to GL and then I along with her sister would fly back here. If I dont' make my SR's graduation? I can say for a fact he would be heart broken. It would mean a lot and I promised him. So all this is going to cost me money I have no idea where I'll get. (my bills on two part-time jobs barely get us by at the moment.).
Thank you Ellen for briefing us on the amount of time and the process after they graduate (PIR) that day (weekend). It gives me an idea of when to book my flight out. My SR would want to spend as much time with us as he can before we leave.

I've booked my group at the Navy Lodge for the Aug 1st -3rd. $66 per night and no tax if you give them your graduates name. It's very clean and highly recommended so I was thrilled with that!
