Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!
Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!
Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Liz: See my info below on Liberty for the weekend. It is very rare for sailors to fly out as late as Monday....most will be leaving during the weekend. And even if some are held for some reason longer, that doesn't mean that you will get to visit with your sailor past the weekend.

LPNavyMom: Yes, most will fly out on Saturday at some point (could be later in the afternoon though), but sometimes they don't fly out until Sunday. That is why we recommend that all stay until Sunday if they can....just in case. You will get to visit your sailor at the airport, and with ID, you can get a pass and stay until departure.
PlutosMom: Victorsmom is correct...GL A School sailors get Liberty Fri (after they move over there after PIR...takes a few hours), from early morning to later in the evening Sat. and Sun. So if you don't want to miss any time with your sailor, you may want to plan to go home Monday if possible!

Uh oh, I do not have a creative bone in my body, need to start getting ideas! :) Never thought I would need to do that..LOL We are checking out Sat afternoon, as his A school is out of state, and I read where they leave the same day, or next after grad

PlutosMom: Glad to hear you were able to book Navy Lodge. We look forward to meeting you and your family. I heard that we are able to visit with our boys on Sunday as well. My son also was told he will walk across the grounds to his new living quarters.

Ok, I called this morning thanks to all your great advice to call direct! We are booked at the Navy Lodge from Thurs - Sun, our son told us early on that his A school is right across the street from Basic Training. Was I ok to checkout Sun and not Monday? I don't want to miss an opportunity to be with him...so new at this! Thanks for all your help!

Victorsmom, my brother who is USMC retired was able to book us rooms early yesterday am at the "Lodge", so I guess we will see you there :)

Plutosmom: We called around 4:30 ET. yesterday directly. At that time the only thing they did not have available were the suites. We were able to reserve a room with a small kitchenette. Talk to you soon....

How will we know if our SR will be granted Liberty? That'll help in making arrangements. I don't know if we should stay the whole weekend or just for Friday. Help! Lol :)
