OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

we're coming from central new york and our flights would have cost us ~$350 each, and there's 4 of us. Southwestern doesn't fly out of our area. So we are driving, too, but it'll be about 10-12 hours. Plutosmom, would you be able to break your drive into 2 days? It means another motel night, but I was thinking about how you will feel when you arrive and then have to be at the hall for PIR so early on Friday. I can't do those long hauls like I did when I was 20.....!

Southwest is the best since there is no change fee if your SR is delayed in training (mine was).  2 bags check for free too.

Good Morning!

Ho proud Mom, I am coming with Grma to in the weel chair, I booked south west, arriving thursday and departing saturday, anyone flying to Midway, I would share any ride cost. We are staying in Navy Lodge, or perhaps I could follow someone with the rental car, I heard traffic is bad and confusing roads. Thank you all :))

The best I found was though Southwest airlines website out of LAX on Aug6th leaving@5:30pm arriving@1am the price is $185 and if you leave for home mon 8/11 @5:20 get home at 10:50pm it's also $185. That's the cheapest I found but there are some other options for other days for a bit more $, so check there site. I'm from Fresno area and there are 4 of us going so I think we may take the train, it will save us around $300.

I'm coming from California. Has anyone found any good flights from the LA area?

Comment by Conny on June 23, 2014 at 11:19pm

We are flying out of CA (LA), back home Monday with American Airline. Staying at the Navy Lodge.
