OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

In case this is info anybody needs my SR said they were asked on the second day who had contacts and no glasses and couldn't get by without glasses. That would be my son. So he was taken and fitted for glasses immediately. Also if they have impacted wisdom teeth they are getting removed this week.

I just got my call, Div 239. Yeah! It was 847 Waukegan.
Comment by diannep on June 21, 2014 at 9:47am

nancyjane:  Calls from the SRs are so totally random....please keep your phone "on you" at all times so you don't miss one!

Comment by diannep on June 21, 2014 at 9:46am

Make sure your phone is on the vibrate feature too....and think about storing it in your bra when you are working outside, etc.  The vibration may startle you when a call comes in, but you shouldn't miss it!  :-)

Yes, 847 is the most common area code, but please answer all calls during Bootcamp because occasionally calls have come in from other Chicago area codes.  Just nicely get rid of solicitors quickly as so as not to miss your SR 's call!

For those who may be jumping over to the FB groups, PLEASE stay on this group too.  We like to work together and appreciate you sharing info from this site over there.....and sharing info from their site over here.  That way, there is the best of both worlds!

Congrats on the calls yesterday and hope there are more for other divisions today!

Good Morning!

AmericanNavy1 I was a little jealous when I read every one comment on getting their letter, until last night when I came home an check the mail box , which by the way was my SR things to do list, I forgot which key to use . Here's a little humor I would like to share, the last week that my son was home he had me doing all his chores , while singing " you gonna miss me when I'm gone, miss me when I'm goooone". I had to learn the night the trash goes out, what day for recycled trash, an last to watch Games of Throne
Finale an be able to write about it my letter, whew I miss saying 'clean your room, clean your bathroom, put the cereal back, put the milk in the refrigerator, what time you getting home, walk the dog. Just a few things that are dear to me now , I wanted to share .
