Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Nice to have our own PIR group - makes me feel like we are moving forward! I haven't received the form letter yet, but I know it will come soon. So enjoyed the surprise phone call last Saturday, even if it was only 5 minutes. I love the countdown clock and the live stream of Waukegan!

Just remember, ladies, that the mail is held from them for about the 1st 2 weeks of Bootcamp until they can get the Recruit Mail Petty Officer trained to handle it. They can write the first time when they finally receive this mail, but sometimes they may write right before receiving the mail, so don't be surprised if your first letter asks why you haven't written even though you wrote tons of letters! Most likely, they were given these right after they wrote.
Don't wait on booking hotels. There is a Six Flags up there and the hotels book quickly in the summer. If you call and book the hotel directly, no penalty if you have to cancel...usually 24-48 hrs before arrival. Hotels recommended by others on this site: Navy Lodge (mile from base, reasonable rates, book in your SR's name if you do not have your own military ID, call hotel directly), Courtyard Inn, Springhill Suites, Residence Inn, Holiday Inn Express.--- call these directly too and ask for the Navy Graduation rate. These last 4 hotels are close to Sarge's MeetandGreet held the night before PIR for you. 4-5 miles from base. He also offers a shuttle service to you from/to the airports and to/from PIR.

If booking flights, please check into Southwest Airlines into either Milwaukee (45 min to GL) or Chicago Midway (hour+ to GL depending on traffic). No change fee if your SR is delayed in training, 2 bags check for free too.

Americanavy1, no letter here either. Just the box and form letter. I've been sending out letters everyday. I believe it will take a while to receive anything back. But that doesn't mean I can't plan my trip up there! Lol (:
