OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

BS schedule, btw.

I'm not aware of a schedule? Is there one? If so, where do I find it? And the calls take place from 2-4, correct? And one more pesky question: my SR mentioned a visitor center where loved ones not on the guest list could watch the live stream. Any details about that?

Good morning! Has anyone heard from 939? I keep finding myself staring at the phone, trying to make it ring!

Thanks Lala - I was thinking we are probably going to have to find a Starbucks or someplace open very early, so they can hang out there and watch online.  BTW - received the PIR ribbons last week.  Beautiful!   I've the got the ribbons for the family and the Challenge Coins / Casio watch for my sailor.  We even did a "dry run" a few weeks ago to GL, so we know where to find Sarge on Thursday, and PIR on Friday.   I think we're all set.  Can't believe it's almost here.

CoreyMom it is live streamed online so if you take a laptop you should be able to view it from anywhere with WIFI, a hotel, a coffee shop, even our grocery stores here have free wifi so there should be several choices that are not too far away.

Good Morning!  I'm looking for suggestions on where additional family members  can go to watch PIR.  We live an hour from GL, so will be driving obviously.  Our sailor's godmother and girlfriend would like to come and be in the area so we can all get together when PIR is finished.  Several weeks ago there was a suggestions that additional family members could get together for a "viewing party" in a meeting room of the hotels folks are staying at.  Anyone heard anything more about that, or is anyone in a similar situation?  Would love some ideas.   Looking forward to meeting everyone at Sarge's.  For those moms still waiting for the "Sailor" call - I pray they come quickly.  I know nerves are nearly frazzled.  And congrats to those new "sailor moms".  See you all Friday!  Yay!

Good morning everyone. Without hindering OPSEC, does anyone know about when division 939 will go through their battle station testing? Thanks and have a wonderful day!

Comment by Thetribemom on August 5, 2013 at 9:15am

Oh  and I hope to meet everyone and Sarge's
