~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Publichealthgal:  Sadly, they usually do not get to watch the fireworks, but being a Federal Holiday, they should get "holiday/Sunday schedule" which would mean some down time.  They may still do some training, but not as much as a regular training day.  Those in the 900 divisions sometimes get to perform in events connected to July 4th in the area, but that would be for the PIR groups ahead of this one, not the brand new ones.

Good Morning All !

Sharebear:  Yes, the new sailors will be allowed to leave the base after PIR for Liberty.  The ones flying out will get at least PIR day, but they may be heading to the airports later that night (wee hours) to wait for flights on Sat.  You can meet them at the airports and wait with them.....take ID for an airlines pass so you can wait until they depart!

Good morning everyone! I wonder too joesmom and kim75.  I'm glad to see I'm not alone.  I spoke with Sarge yesterday, a really great guy and he had wonderful suggestions.  I'm looking as little stress as possible that weekend.  I've booked my hotel and am looking into flights.  I also like to have everything done as soon as possible so I can not worry.

Hey, I wonder if our recruits get to celebrate 4th of July in any way? My son and I joked that RTC will probably hand out ice cream sandwiches or something :) That will be their celebration. Gotta love bootcamp. Maybe they will get to see a firework or two, I hope.

Hi Sharebear and poodleover, I think there will be many places available for awhile. My semester starts not too far from PIR, and I'm also in summer school, so I like to get things out of the way when I can. I think seeing our kids at PIR will be awesome!

Publichealthgal, nice to meet you too! I don't have the money to make reservations for awhile so I hope places don't get booked. Where did you book at? How many nights? Will our boys get to leave base after to visit with those who aren't on list? My other children want to visit.

I made reservations today too Publichealthcal - I make my son crazy too - always planning way ahead --always arriving early everywhere we go!!! But it feels more "real" and not so far away having hotel and plane reservations!

Hi Sharebear, nice to meet you! I hope our sons are hanging in there. I just made my reservations because I'm such a planner. I drove my son crazy at times. I'm also in grad school so August gets a little busy. One less thing to think about.

Hi everyone - my son is in Ship 13 Div 249 - any others?

Welcome to the new members!  Please be sure to check out the "pages" info, above and to the right on this page, for some good stuff !  Also be asking any questions on here that you have !  One of us will try to answer as soon as possible.

blond305:  Watch for others joining here from  251 or 252 since they are "brother divisions" and will be in the same ship (barracks).  That way you will have the Ship number too.  You should be receiving the form letter from your SR shortly!

For those who have not made reservations yet, here is a suggestion:  Try and book on Southwest Airlines if you can (into either Milwaukee WI, 45 min to GL....or...Chicago Midway...hour+ to RTC depending on traffic)....because....they charge no change fee if you have to change reservations for any reason, including your SR being delayed in training (as mine was!).  I would recommend that you book your hotels right away, but call the hotel directly and ask for the Navy Graduation discount.  Navy Lodge is a popular hotel to stay at, close to RTC.  But call them, don't trust their online availability....sometimes online shows no rooms available, but if you call the hotel, you may find otherwise (just happened on another PIR group today).  They do not offer a Navy Graduation discount, but many of the other hotels do (Navy Lodge has good rates anyway!).  If you do not have your own military ID, book at Navy Lodge in your SR's name.

Other hotels to consider, which are close to Sarge's MeetandGreet held the night before PIR for all of you, are:

Springhill Suites, Courtyard Inn, Residence Inn, Holiday Inn Express.  All of these hotels have had positive reviews by others on this site.  Again, call the hotels directly so you can ask for the Navy Graduation Discount.

Should you rent a car or take Sarge's shuttles (actually a taxi service but he has some set rates)?  Well, it is usually the most economical to rent a car.  There are some "deals" out there.  Try Enterprise.  Tell them you are coming up there for Bootcamp Graduation....I believe that Sarge said if you show them your form letter upon arrival, there is a discount?  Not positive on that, but worth a try!  For those who don't want to rent a car, then Sarge is "your man."  He will get you from/to the airports, to/from PIR, and around town if you need that service too.  His contact info is:

847 212 0246 (text of call) or johnspadaro@att.net

Welcome to Navy Bootcamp!
