OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

jade_hare,
It's nice to hear from someone else that has a loved one with same ship and div. I'm sure you were thrilled to receive his phone call.

Soccermom2 I got my phone call today also!  I still haven't received my form letter, but he said he was in ship 3, so our kids might be in the same division.  He did make a comment that he might get to call again in a couple of weeks if his division improves.

I got my 10 minute phone call today from my daughter ship 3 div 261. She sounded so happy and really isn't having that bad of a time. She made a friend from AZ on the air plane and they ended up being bunk mates. She said they boys keep getting in trouble, the girls haven't yet lol. Didn't get to see the fire works but heard them. Doesn't need to get any teeth pulled either so she is happy about that. Keeps volunteering for things but one RDC over looks her each time. Even with bad news from home she stayed strong and is happy she is in the Navy.
