Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Brandy: Candlewood was very near Residence Inn, where we stayed. The area is nice and only about 4-5 miles from RTC. Big Walmart shopping center there, restaurants, Courtyard Inn, Springhill Suites, Holiday Inn Express nearby. All good hotels. All are close to Sarge's MeetandGreet held the night before PIR.
Have not seen many posts about Candlewood so I would check the reviews on it.

I recomend The Navy Lodge if they still have room...inexspensive, nice, and very close to base...this will be my 2nd graduation, middle son stationed in Va : )

I booked at the courtyard Marriott for 104 a night it got great reviews has a nice pool too

ProudofDaniel- I booked there too and then I saw all the bad reviews and switched. We are now staying at the SpringHill Marriott. I didn't want to take any chances with this being a horrible hotel. I've had good experiences at Ramada's in the past but this one doesn't sound good.

I'm going to look into booking the flights this weekend and it sounds like O'Hare is the closes. I dont travel much, actual this will be my first flight EVER !!.. so you can imagen how nervous I am. It seems like a car is needed regardless.. right ??

If you have a car, the Hampton Inn Libertyville has 4.5 stars on trip advisor and they offered a really good rate for PIR. The price I got at the Courtyard was almost double. Worth a try if you have transportation! :)

I read some where that the Navy Lodge or Navel Lodge was a nice place and only a mile away from where we need to be for PIR but when I went on to check it out I needed to create a username and password. Did anyone else need to do this or is everyone else calling in their reservations ? curious...
Oh and no letter or call yet from my son :(
