OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

PROUDOFDANIEL, Civies cannot be worn until they phase up and it can take a few weeks for that to happen. If taking civilian clothes remember you sailor may not fit in the clothes he/she used to wear, they may have lost weight or bulked up during BC.

I wouldn't take a pair of sweats because they have their smurfs. I would take a pair of jeans, a couple of t-shirts and of course different underwear (lol). Jeans cannot be frayed, torn, or bleached, the pant legs cannot touch the ground, and no "low riding jeans". T-shirts must have something printed on them if the are white or navy blue (my son wouldn't wear plain black, it can look blue), because they can be mistaken for undershirts which is a no no.

They can have their electronics after they move over to the TSC side.

Remember anything you take them they have to move on their own, they cannot count on help from anyone. They will also probably change ships while in school, and if they are in GL for school they will change ships at least once.

NavyBugMom.... what personal items are you bringing for A school? Our recruiter told us to bring a pair of sweats, couple shirts, and his cell phone. Can we bring more than that?

Well, It appears that this TG will only have 11 divisions which means 4 guests. The RTC has not posted the divisions yet, but there has been a form letter received for the next PIR with division 321, so here is to hoping that is correct. :)

NavyBugMom, The Navy Gateway Inn is actually on the base. If none of your family members attending have a military ID you will all have to go through a background check in order to stay there. Your daughter will have to apply for a chit to visit there, as she is a student and students are not allowed at the hotel except for PIR weekend. You will also be limited in what you can do and where you can go while on base unless your daughter is with you.

The Navy Lodge is the hotel that is located in the base housing, but not behind a gate. It is only about 1.5 miles from the RTC and another half mile to a mile from the TSC main gate. You do not need to have a military ID to stay there and there are no restriction for your daughter at that hotel.

You do need to put your reservation at either hotel in your SRs name. Whichever you decide to stay at be sure to call them directly and tell them you are coming for graduation to get the grad rate.

A funny story as we are all waiting for our letters from our SR

I have a friend who is a retired Marine.  He said that when he was in boot camp he never wrote his mom (I gave him a very dirty look for this).  One night around 2 in the morning his drill instructor came up to his bunk, pulled him to the ground, stepped on his check and yelled WRITE YOUR MOTHER!!   It seems that after not hearing from her son for so long she called the Red Cross to check on him  : D  He wrote her that day!

I made sure to include that story in a letter to my son  LOL

Good Morning wonderful ladies, fingers crossed for a letter today :)

Comment by diannep on July 10, 2013 at 11:27am

No, we think you are in the right place, Michelle!  Welcome!

Remember to put that form letter in a safe place when it arrives since that password is very important!  You will use it to get your PIR gate pass shortly before PIR.
