OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Sometimes those first letters can be hard. If yo get a letter and your recruit seems down or homesick please don't panic. Just keep sending them letters of encouragement and realize that it gets better and better as time passes and at least 3 or 4 days have already past since the letter was written. You should be able to tell a difference in your recruit as the letter arrive each week. I hope they all are very good about writing to you all :(

timmysmom- that is great news that our SR's div may get to call tomorrow! It is so good to know that they are doing well. The "hi mom" made me cry good tears. I can't wait to hear those words from my son!

nattieboo.... your daughter and my husband are in the same division!

Comment by momof2finegirls on July 12, 2013 at 6:24pm

Just got my letter today. Written in her handwriting so good to see. Her ship is 02 and division is 942. Her first letter is in the mailbox awaiting pick up tomorrow. Our letter carrier is a friend of ours so when she saw me she waved the letter and said "here it is!" LOL
