OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Eagle...wow! I know your so proud but I can understand the being a bit nervous about a sub. I think I would be too but they are in good hands and well trained. It's the momma thing to worry... I get it! We're in Tennessee so of course I'm afraid he'll end up in San Diego. But on the positive side we've never been there and I hear its beautiful! My sisterinlaw's in-laws live in CT.

cos333333- My son is going to Groton for sub school and A school for MM. All I know is that Connecticut sure is a long way from Oklahoma! Lol! We are very proud of him, but a little nervous about the submarine to be honest.

Eagle fan... It sure helped getting that letter. Poor mailman, I've been stalking him for a week! I did warn him though so he was happy too! Lol! Look forward to getting to know you and hopefully meeting at PIR! Where will your SR go after bootcamp? Mine is staying at GL for A school for HT.

Thanks diannep! I'll take whatever he has time for. Don't want to take away for sleep or study time.
cos333333- had my own happy dance too, a couple hours ago!!!! Our SR's are in same division. Looking forward to sharing this journey with you.

finally got letter!graduation sooner then i thought! cant wait!
Comment by diannep on July 11, 2013 at 6:48pm

Yes, Eaglefan:  They normally can only write on Sundays and mail out Monday.  Some manage to write "under the red lights" after lights out, but most are too tired or choose to study.

My sons recruiter told me today that he's in Ship 13, Div 321 but haven't received the form letter yet to confirm. I received his "I'm here!" call at 230am on 6/27 so it's been 2 weeks and I can't wait to get the form letter!

Finally got the form letter today! So good to see his handwriting; the same handwriting I complained about for years:). It was beautiful. My SR is ship 13 div 322. He wrote a little note on the brochure that he won't be able to write me until Sunday the 14th. Do they usually only have time to write on Sundays?
Comment by TonyaJosh'sMom on July 11, 2013 at 5:40pm

My SR is in Ship 13 Div 321. Anyone else?
