OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

My boyfriend is a sailor!!! Woohoo! He's in division 327 :) Hope everybody else got their calls too!

rbrown- Have you gotten the sailor call yet?  I've been praying for the SR's who have yet to make that "sailor" call.

Lisa- I agree.  They should allow a few more calls in this last week so that family who are traveling can know what the plan is!!

Comment by Lisa on August 27, 2013 at 4:37pm

Rbrown...thank you! Was your son assigned another division with a different graduation date? Or just another division on the same date? This is all so confusing to me. And I work in law. I wish my SR could just call me.

clover65--Yes, we are planning on being at the meet and greet Thursday night, God willing.  Hopefully we can find each other there!

Ed32--I am hoping for a Sunday flight!

I haven't spoken with him and the only thing I know is he new address is in the 347 div. I don't know what has happened. Thank you for all the info. I just want to know one way or ther other.

cos:  Continued prayers.  So glad that your SR will sign the release so you can be kept aware of what is going on and speak to the "powers that be."  Please keep us posted....

Comment by diannep on August 27, 2013 at 3:33pm

Lisa:  Was he assigned to the 09/13 PIR group?  Usually SRs who are asmoed are given a new date 2 weeks after the original one.
