OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Happy last week of BC. :)

If your SAILOR (I love that word) is staying in GL for A School s/he will call you when ready to leave for liberty on Friday after moving over to the TSC side for A School. Keep your phone close and answer all phone calls, the sailors who are already in school may lend their cell phone to your Sailor to make that call. I almost didn't answer mine because it was a strange area code, my sons roommate let him borrow his phone. :)

If you can get to the gate on the TSC side early and wait for your sailor to call you will get to hear and watch all the new sailors march from their individual ships to the main gate for liberty. They start their cadence at their ships, which are a long distance from the gate, march on the road parallel to the gate then turn the corner and march down the street to the gate.

When you get your phone call that they are ready to go, and you hear another ship starting their march to the gate, the anticipation and wonder if it is your sailor in that group is almost as grand as waiting for the doors to open at PIR.

Happy PIR week everyone and sage travels!

Diannep.. Still nothing. We are leaving Wednesday evening. Going about 3 hrs then go the rest of the way Thursday. He did call last Wednesday and said he didn't get to do BS . A couple moms have said they moved him out of his div but weren't told anything. I tried to call PAO this morning and every option I tried would not give me a live person. And it said press 0 for operator! Ha even that was an invalid opt. Vm is full. Deadend!
