OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Just got off the phone with our son, div 325. Battle stations went well. He said they are all very tired, but happy they did well. They are SAILORS!

cos:  I know the waiting is a killer.  When are you planning to leave for PIR?  Since he has already missed BattleStations with his division, the next call should be to say that he is a sailor (from doing BattleStations with another group).  He already made the call saying that he would miss his BattleStations, right?  If you haven't heard anything by tomorrow afternoon, or Wed morning (if you can wait that long), I would give PAO a call- 847 688 2405.  They may not be able to tell you much, but you can try to see if they can give you a status on him (still a SR or a sailor).  Occasionally, someone is helpful there and is able to update.  However, many times, they say they can't say.  You at least want to know if he is in FIT or RCU.  Still don't know, right?  That would make a huge difference since if in FIT, has chances to pass the PFA and be at PIR through Wed.  If in RCU, hmmmm.....can't be doing PFA until medically released to do that.Ugh....I know that is so hard!  Wish I could get info for you.

Cos--I'm so sorry.  This is one time that No news is not good news.  If he'd been ASMOD He should have called.  Not sure what else would prevent a call.  Hopefully one of the Vets can provide some insight. I'll continue to pray for your SR to finish BS21 and call soon.  Any chance he might have called someone else?? (she asks hopefully).
