N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Iri- No need to apologize, we are all learning here.  There was a post a while back that listed what happens at bootcamp.  one of the links led to this site: http://www.navydep.com/forums/showthread.php?t=433

"Marlinspike. You get to practice the seamanship skills learned the day before. Important to know all roles because they will come in handy for Battle Stations."

I really like having this info and it has helped me feel like I can write "intelligent" letters instead of  " so what are you doing now??" I can ask 'how did you do at Marlinspike?', 'Did the firefighting/ Damage control live up to your expectations?' I have better understanding  and a sense of comfort in a situation that I have no say what so ever in.

BelovedbyHim, I'm sorry for the ignorance, but I don't quite understand what u mean. What does Marlin Spike mean? Or the other stuff you mentioned?

Clover, Iri & Eaglefan,  I also got a call from my SR last Thursday and he said that we likely would not hear from him till the " I'm a Sailor" call.  He is Div 321.  If my count is right they were on day 2-5 last Thursday when he called, so they should be day 3-5 today.  Does that sound right Veteran Moms??  If I'm correct then today was Marlin Spike and tomorrow will be 1/2 way through training and day 1 of "hell week".

Eaglefan  Good to know your Sr is also in Div 322. Keep us posted if you find out how they are doing....My husband and I felt very blessed to get a call from our Sr. last week, this time he wasn't even in a hurry. :-)

Eaglefan, thanks for sharing, my son didn't know when he would be calling us back, I'm so saddened at the thought of not hearing his voice. But I guess we forget its bootcamp, not vacation. It was nice knowing you could count on a call each Saturday.

Clover and Iri, my son is also div 322. He called last Thurs. around 3 pm central and also said this will be the last call for a while. I was surprised but elated to get a call at that time. He said I should only expect one more which would be the " I'm a sailor" call. He said that everything was going well. He sounded 100% better than he did on the first call. Seemed to finally be adjusting. I'm not sure there is any rhyme or reason to when they make calls.
