~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Good morning everyone :)
Corey's wife, don't you just LOVE it when someone messes up your paperwork and it turns into a very good thing :) Congrats on the call.
My daughter was also in the performing division. She was in the choir and I got about the same number of calls as people from other divisions. I think it all depends on who their RDC is and how well they are doing as a division. So don't give up hope. I am sure you all will hear from them soon :) Here's some info to help you understand the performing divisions.
Performing divisions info:
There are actually three different performing divisions that rotate. One is a working group called ships staff and they work behind the scenes with VIP's and as greeters, side boys and body snatchers. Side boys for a Receiving line for the VIP's to enter through at the start of the ceremony. Body snatchers walk up and down the isles of sailors and make eye contact and even speak to the sailors to make sure they are not about to pass out. They often lock their knees because they have to stand in one spot for such a long time. If they lock their knees it can cut off the blood flow and cause them to faint. Of course the sailor behind them does their best to catch them :) Another part of the performing divisions is the flag corp and they carry and perform with the 50 state flags during the ceremony. The third part is known as The Triple Threat. The Triple Threat is made up of the band, drill team and choir and they all perform throughout the ceremony. It is so amazing how they can pull this all off in such a short time and still accomplish all that is to be done during boot camp. They are either chosen for this division or they can volunteer for it. If they have band, flagcorps, drill team, choir, or marching experience they can volunteer. They can also be handpicked or volunteer if they have high ASVAB scores. They don't expect them to need as much time to study which gives a lot more time for practice :) Once they are in the performing DIV they may be able to try out to be a part of the Triple Threat and be in the band, choir, or drill team. I hope this helps you all understand what your recruits are doing.
Good Morning All! Hope everyone has a good weekend....and just maybe some calls will come in? You never know!
tiffw, my son is in Ship 12 Div 325.
Proverbs: Never apologize for asking questions! That is what we are here for!
Yes, you are correct on him not knowing his travel itinerary until PIR week. So you won't be able to wait on him before making your own reservations.
They can purchase the phone cards in the NEX with their supply card (issued to them when they arrived). Some of the SRs may also have the callsforrecruits phone cards (free) that they may pass out to others (each is good for about one call....lots of minutes to connect the calls from the pay phones). Having said that, it is a good idea to buy your SR a phone card and mail it. One with at least 250-300 minutes. I purchased mine in my grocery store, some have purchased them at Walmart or maybe even a Target, maybe a drug store.
diannep, thanx for the info! I have a few more questions..sorry :/ Am I correct that he won't know his itinerary or what airport he's flying out of until the week of PIR? I've read on one of these sites that we should send a prepaid calling card. Will he not be able to call home unless he has one? Do you know where to get those and is there a certain kind?
thanks Diannep :)
anxiouswife, we are happy to have you here. We have moms, wives, grandmas, dads, aunts [pretty much everyone so you are definitely in the right place :) I hope you are writing letters every day. And, I am sure you will hear something soon. Maybe they will get to write this Sunday and you will get a letter next week. My fingers are crossed for ya :)
Proverbs 3:5-6 (love your screen name!). No, he will not be able to come home between bootcamp/A School. That only happens during Christmas break for those graduating during that time. He will head to A School most likely the day after PIR. However, sometimes they fly out on Sunday if they can't get flights on Saturday. You can wait at the airport with him on Saturday until he leaves, so if possible, make your return Sunday just in case.
Glad you are back, Lala!
