Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Packing, getting ready to fly early tomorrow. Very excited & anxious. Thank you all very much, especially the vet moms for holding my hand trough this transition period that is BC. Having a someone to talk to, ask questions it was instrumental for my sanity.........You guys rock!!
CONGRATULATIONS to all new Sailors!!!!!GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU SAFE ALWAYS.
This is what was posted on their site, tiffw:
"What tenders are acceptable for NEX Gift Card purchases at NEX stores?
Cash, check, Traveler's Check, Money Orders, Military Star Card, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, Gift Certificate, Gift Card and Foreign Currency ( where acceptable)."
Did I read at some point that we need cash for the NEX?
I ran into a RDC at Walmart really last at night a couple days before PIR, she told me that they start all over again the next week with a new group...unless they are requesting leave...she said the RDCs are pretty proud of the grad group and really are competitive with the flags, scores and Captains cup...We actually chat awhile, she was very informative and loves what she does there....:))
BigRed: Hmmmm....good question! But, yes, I do believe that some of the RDCs get some Liberty on that day....not positive. They will have lots to do to prepare for their next group of SRs arriving soon! You will be able to meet your sailor's RDCs when Liberty is called. They will be standing with your division.
CamsMom: There are no pictures allowed to be taken outside of PIR Hall. No outside base pictures....so keep that in mind! You can take as many as you like, cellphone or camera, inside PIR Hall. If you are seen taking pictures outside on the base, you will be asked to delete the pictures. Please be mindful of this....I forgot this...asked my older son to take a picture of a division marching by...uh oh....a kind mom (probably a member on here!) quietly told him that was not allowed. He had not snapped the picture yet and was quite angry at me for telling him to do it. Oooops!
PDA (Public Display of Affection) is allowed inside PIR Hall when you greet your sailors....just don't go overboard (you may feel your sailor stiffen up a bit if you try! They are firmly warned about this!). Once you walk out of the door (they will clear PIR Hall after about 10 minutes), the only thing you are allowed to do is take the "crook" of your sailor's left arm....no hand holding, arms around each other, hugs. His/her right arm must be free to salute when necessary.
This same rule applies off-base....your sailors will be watched by the "powers that be" around town...some in plain clothes. There are repercussions if they are not following the rules at all times. So please do not encourage them! Once, a mom posted that her hubby couldn't wait to "share a beer with our new sailor son." When we reminded her that the consumption of alcohol (smoking too) are prohibited on Liberty, she got a bit defensive and said they could do it in the room. YIKES! I sure hope we talked some sense into her....or better yet, that her sailor did! That could have been big trouble for him!
Which is why I became buddies with the coffee booth!
In order to get the same seats that BeachBunny mentioned below---top row, bottom bleachers, leaning against the wall, you must get to PIR EARLY! Those are considered "prime" seats (as is the bottom row), so arrive at RTC by 6:30 if possible (when gates open) and stake your claim! :-)
The I'm a Sailor calls do not always start at 2 pm (Central time), but could start then! Keep those phones glued to you all day! Many times, they can come in later.
For those flying who may not have received your calls by departure time....change your voicemail to greet your new sailor (since phones are off in flight). Tell your sailor you are in flight to see them! HOOYAH! Ask that they call back as many times as possible and give you all info! You may want to let them know what time you will have your phone on again in case they can call back...not likely that they can do this, but you never know.
Also, they are allowed computer time too so if on FB, be sure to check their accts to see if they posted info or sent you a message! Many get on the computers while waiting for the phones.
