I got my sons letter last week. He didn't say a whole lot. Just that things weren't very easy there (that's an understatement) and that he had already thought about quitting a few times (that discouraged me greatly considering it was just his first week there). He did say after that he planned on keeping strong and would finish strong. I sure hope he hangs onto that determination. He's gonna need it!

cheryle13 - my son said it sucked.  The main reason I'm replying though is to ask if you spell your name cheryle (with an e)?  That is how I spell ine and I've only ever met one other person who spells their's that way.

No  sorry.   E is my middle initial :)

cheryle13,  I can imagine your feelings when your son  talks about how tough it is but reading all the comments from moms and friends,  that is why they can't call us  the first 3 weeks.  The pressure is extreme during the 3 week transformation but after that the building up process begins and their  attitude gets better.  Be strong cheryle13.  We can get through this with the support of each other and these amazing moms and friends.

Hugs for you my new friend! <3   We've been truly Blessed by these amazing, strong young men and women.  They are going to make us so proud!!

Thank you Pam....everyday that passes that I don't hear from Jesse (or his RDC) I breathe a little easier...no news is good news :).  Hope we can find each other at graduation! Are you planning on attending Sarge's meet n greet?

My son's letter wasn't that different, and I felt the same way...he's wanted this his whole life.  I hope the news in this week's letter is better :)

Let's be sure to keep each other posted when we get our call or next letter. Thanks for your reply! I've been reading comments from so many other moms who's son/daughter had only positive comments that I was discouraged.

Wow - a few of you have already gotten letters - still waiting for my first one.

When did your son/daughter leave for Great Lakes?

Son left on July 2nd

My son left July 3. I received letter #2 today. Did you get yours?

Cheryle, dont get too discouraged when your SR feels like throwing in the towel and quitting....... they are purposely being pushed to think exactly that way and yet all the while, keeping those thoughts to themselves and pushing through what they have to do.  Very soon those thoughts of wanting to quit, will be replaced with thoughts of I can do this and I am NOT quitting!  Its that point in time when they are on their way to being in the proper mind set to become Sailors.

"Incognito"

Thank you for your words of encouragement! I can only hope at this point that my son remembers that his only alternative to quitting is coming back here to...nothing.
