for
~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC apply to the Discussion Forum area as well. The Division Discussions are viewable to all...just like the Main Wall here.
Please do not start new division discussions!!!!
The Discussion Forum area is set to show titles only and is set at ten titles at a time for now. (This can be adjusted by the group creator or an administrator)
It is also set to show the "latest activity" (there are other settings). So whatever has just had a reply added to it will "bump" that Discussion to the top. The discussion will stay up there at the top because it has had "activity"…until the next Discussion has activity. If there are over ten discussions, whatever is at the bottom will disappear from view…but not from the Discussion Forum. So, if you want to see more, click "view all" at the bottom right hand corner of the discussion forum area. It is right up there above the Blue Comment Wall bar.
When you view a discussion forum by clicking on the title, the first post ever made will be the first one on the first page. To get to the most current reply, click “Last Reply” directly underneath that particular Discussion.
~You will also notice that in the top right corner in any post that you do you will see an "x". This is so you may delete your post if you need too. You will also see the “x” on any post you make anywhere else on the site.
Tomorrow is two weeks my kid has been at Bootcamp, and Friday will make it 6 more to go! Reservations made at the Navy Lodge, Challenge Coin ordered, all that's left is PIR Ribbons, shirts, waiting on calls, and letters! I am ahead of the game! woo-hoo Ship 12 Division 293 Rocks!
Most hotels offer the Navy Graduation discount (certain number of rooms held at this rate, most likely). Navy Lodge does not since their prices are already low! Please book early---there is a Six Flags nearby that causing rooms to book up in the summer/early Fall....there is no penalty for cancelling as long as it is done either the day before or day of arrival in most cases. This is if you book directly with the hotel. Not sure how the travel discount sites work with hotel reservations.
For those who may have booked Navy Lodge in their own name (and you do not have military ID) rather than their SR's....you can either call and change it, or change it when you check in.
Oh, and AudsMom: Check Midway and Milwaukee as destinations for Southwest. They do not fly to Ohare. Milwaukee is further in miles, but quicker in time because of no traffic....45 min drive compared to hour or more from Midway.
AudsMom: Try Southwest. They charge no change fee if you have to change for any reason (i.e., SR getting delayed in training for any reason). Also 2 bags check for free....and I believe they "bundle" a car rental for you as well at a good price!
Welcome, Miasdad! We do get men on this site...for the reason you mentioned! :-) We welcome everyone here! Please read the PAGES section above and to the right for lots of info, and then post any questions you have. We will try and answer them!
Good Morning All!
well I am not a mom obviously but this site has more information than the one for dads. My daughter is in Ship 11 DIV 289 and graduates 9/4/2015. It would be great to talk to some people who have SR's in the same ship and div
AudsMom,
Renting s car is going to be the most cost effective way to go. We rented one from Enterprise Rent-A-Car for $124 from Thursday to Saturday. We drove from O'Hare to Great Lakes, left it at the hotel for PIR and took Sarge's shuttle, went out for lunch & an outing to a beauty salon for some pampering, then drove to Midway Airport to meet my Sailor daughter at the airport, then back to the hotel to get rest after she flew out, then to O'Hare to catch our flight home. It's well worth it!
The Sarge huttle package roundtrip from O'Hare and back is $99 just for that one thing! About $159 from Midway and back. Both include a free ride to PIR (but not back--which is $3.) Remember you will need to make a trip to one of the airports to see your SR off. If your SR has A school at Great Lakes, you will need a car to drive around for the whole weekend~~
