Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Comment by 530BBMom on July 16, 2015 at 5:25pm: Hello all!! New Navy Mom here. Received unofficial word (phone call from my recruit to his GF) that his Division is 292. So that make his PIR 9/4.

She also got his mailing address so I will go get a prepaid phone card and mail it out tomorrow.

Cant wait to meet you all and hopefully see you in GL!!

Comment by BlessedX3 on July 16, 2015 at 4:57pm: We must live in the sticks! I'm having a hard time even finding prepaid phone cards! One sales clerk didn't even know what I was talking about. And then when I do, I don't see anything on them about activating them. I do see that they charge like $1.50 for each phone call from a pay phone, and then start charging again per minute. Is there a certain brand of card?

I got a surprise call for information and the form letter too. She even addresses her sisters on the envelope and made their day. She so uses exhausted and not so spunky but she'll get there

Comment by diannep on July 16, 2015 at 4:13pm: ellen is a great "oops ooper eliminator", fayegirrl! Well, actually, as creator of the PIR groups, she has "magical powers" that allow her to help this along! No worries!

Everyone: It is good to send them a phone card....activated....so they won't have to use their Recruit Supply Card to buy one in the NEX. But they do have that option....you save them money on their supply card by sending one though. Please get one with minimum 250-300 min....because connecting from the pay phone eats up alot of the minutes.
