DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Just booked our room!  One step closer!

Yes, Luvmysailor.  They will probably ask you to have your sailor stop by the desk at some point during the PIR day, but not sure that is enforced.

@diannep when we make reservations under our sons name will they let us check in without them being present?

And....Good morning!!  :)

Comment by Becca on July 16, 2014 at 8:32am

Thanks for the info! Calling this morning!! One more step in feeling closer to my SR.  Thank you, thank you!!

Comment by diannep on July 16, 2014 at 8:18am

Yes, it is a good idea, Becca.  The hotels can fill up quickly.  Check out Navy Lodge (book in your SR's name if you do not have military ID), Springhill Suites, Courtyard Inn, Residence Inn, and Holiday Inn Express.  Navy Lodge has good rates....close to RTC.....nothing fancy, but clean and was updated about a year or so ago.  The other 4 hotels are about 4-5 miles from RTC, near the MeetandGreet held for you all the night before PIR.  Call those hotels directly and ask for the Navy Grad discount.

CatMom has been posting scripture in all of the PIR groups, on a daily basis, ever since her daughter was at Bootcamp.  We are very grateful for her daily inspiration!

Oh, and on the hotels, you usually can cancel up to the day before or day of arrival if you need to with no penalty.  So it doesn't hurt to book early.  There is a Six Flags nearby so that is one reason that the hotels book up in the summer months.

Remember to check out Southwest Airlines for flights....no change fee, 2 bags check for free.  Check flights into both Milwaukee WI and Chicago-Midway.  They do not fly into Ohare.

Good Morning All !
