If this has already been discussed please excuse my asking again. I couldn't find much info anywhere though. I understand that the amount of liberty time given after PIR depends on where they go to A school and when they ship out. My son will go to A school in Meridian Mississippi (not Great Lakes)...but that's all we know.
First question, when will we know how much liberty they get and when they ship out?
Second question, how do we get their things to them to take to A school if they are not permitted to take it back onto base with them after liberty? Our son packed a bag when he left and shortly after his first letter wrote for us to add something to it but has not mentioned how they get it once I bring it to Great Lakes.
Any clarification would be appreciated.
This may not be much help, but I heard that if your SR isn't staying in Great Lakes, they'll be leaving the day after PIR. We are going to see him off at the airport on Saturday, and we can give him his bag of stuff there. I'm sure you can do the same.
Most of the time the SRs leave for A School very early Saturday morning if they are flying out. You can meet the at the airport, and the best place to meet them is at the USO. You can get a gate pass, to go with them and wait for their plane to leave (your sailor must be with you to do so).
As far as what they need or want, most of the want their electronics, phones, PS2, IPad etc. you can give all of this to them when you meet them at the airport, not before.
Your SRs don't need an awful lot to begin with as they must Phase to wear civies, and their rooms are not that big. They must stow just about everything. For clothes maybe a pair of jeans, pant legs cannot touch the ground, t-shirts (anything white or blue must be printed). They definitely want "real" underwear as soon as possible!!!!
If your SR is staying in GL for A School, they will have about an hour after PIR before they must report back to the RTC to move to the base across the street, before they can leave for the rest of the day.
