The Navy Lodge does not have a Shuttle. But, you can call Sarge he provides a great taxi service...this is the same man that runs a wonderful Meet and Greet...we knew him first for his taxi service though. It is a very minimal price like the other shuttles.

SARGE'S TAXI 1 (847) 212 - 0246.

Here is a DOOR HANGER word.doc that I did for another PIR:

DOOR HANGER Word.doc for you to make for your Hotel Room

My stepson is also ship 14/div 292....We are staying at the Navy lodge as well but I had a few questions about it.  When I called the Navy lodge to make the reservation, I was told we could make it in my stepsons name because he is there for bootcamp.  We will not have anyone in our group who is military, so I was wondering what it will be like for us staying at the lodge ( which I understand is on the base).....Will we have to leave base to eat or is there a place on base we could eat....We really aren't interested in travelling all over the place if we don't have to.  I am pregnant and been feeling pretty awful...I don't want to sound like I don't care about seeing my stepson (because I am soooooo ready for that!), but I'm thinking that the less hassle I have for everything else, the better.  Anyone have any suggestions?

I was also wondering....if we have to leave base to eat, is there a bus station or something nearby the base that we could use to get around?  Thanks so much!!!

The Navy Lodge is not on Base (RTC does not have berthing for guests) It  is located about 1.8 miles south of RTC. There is no restaurant and none in walking distance. I did not see too many buses but Sarge Taxi service is great. He runs one of the Meet and Greets now as well. We knew him for his taxi service first and he sgoes above and beyond for the families and the Sailors in GL A school use him all the time. Here is his number: SARGE'S TAXI 1 (847) 212 - 0246.

I stayed at the Navy Lodge...but I had a rental car to get around. Here is my write up for that:

Here is some additional info on the Navy Lodge:

I stay military when I can...hubby has been AF Reserves for 27 years, son is the Sailor...so I have dependant ID. You don't need it for this Navy Lodge. You tell them it is for PIR and they may ask for your Recruits Name and Rate (Navy enlisted have "rate" not rank...it coincides with their pay grade E-1 to E-9 for enlisted. E-3 is the highest rate they can "rank up" too in BC). They may also ask you to bring them by to verify...but I always forget if that is enforced.

It is clean, I did not get a kitchenette as those are first come first serve. We had to queens and a rollaway.TV with DVD player, microwave, small fridge etc. Had nice furniture and a lobby with a fireplace. Hot coffee 24/7. Vending machines (variety...even one with alcohol! You have to get tokens at the desk for this.) Coin laundry, You can buy Computer time (these look exactly like the ones I saw in Recruit phone Computer room at the NEX) and pay for printer usage. Computers are in front of the elevators on each floor. WiFi has a charge. They do not have a Shuttle Service...but you can ask to arrange for a taxi...again here is where Sarge can come in handy!(SARGE AT 847-212-0246)

Lobby has DVD's for rent, post cards and a Curio with some Navy items for sale. They will give you a temporary pass to use at the small NEX down the road...there is also a gas station (don't need a pass for that).

It runs about $65.00 a night...no tax.

Here is a pic of the pass (courtesy of Craig):

They do a brown bag breakfast daily...was great for PIR. Bagel, cream cheese, chewy granola bar and large OJ...all in this bag:

Was great for PIR! I don't have pictures of the outside...only our messy hotel room!

The NL is about 1.5 miles from RTC. It is not on base but it is in some of the base housing area.

Here is a Mapquest from the Navy Lodge to Ohio Street, Gate 8 of RTC:

Navy Lodge to Ohio at Gate 8

Springhill Suites and Marriot Courtyard are near the Wal-Mart in Waukegan...a little bit further from the base but there are restaurants close by.

Congrats and totally understand!

Thanks so much for the info!  It is so helpful!

I know, isnt it great!!! Today is 4 weeks since he has been gone, Half way there!!!!
