Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Good Morning All !

Oh my, Huntersmom.  I'm so sorry about your health situation.....prayers for you in this journey!

The only other suggestion I can make is to see at the MeetandGreet or after PIR (probably better after PIR with your sailor there with you)....if there is one of his buddies there who will be flying out as well.  If that buddy's family is there, they may be able to take these things out to your son.  But I would definitely have your son involved in this selection process.  Other than that....no, don't think the USO will hold items like that.  If worse comes to worse, you can ship these to him at A School.  My son happened to go to A School in Meridian as well, and he flew there with no phone/laptop.  He called me a couple of days after arriving (either borrowed a cell or called from a pay phone with his phone card, don't remember as this was over 5 yrs ago) with his address and asked me to send his phone....I sent it priority mail and he had it 2 days later.

So there are options!

Hello! First time in here. My son is on USS Hopper and will most likely be leaving the 26th very very early am. A school is in Meridian. We are able to stay over Thursday to Friday only. Is there anyway I can get him his phone, lap top and other items he is allowed? It breaks my heart but we can't afford to stay another night. I'm beside myself...he doesn't know that while he has been at GL I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. So I have been off work for 7 weeksI have to tell him and it's killing me to know he won't have his laptop right away. I know he will want to talk with me as much as possible. Is this something I can leave at the USO at whatever airport he is leaving from? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
