Battlestation 21 and PIR info

The big day is fast approaching - time to get some info on the final weeks of BC, Battlestation 21 and PIR!

Here is what I know about BS21  (from Jessica B - we love her!)

1. They ALWAYS go in numerical order.
2. They always go with their brother division as they have done all training with them.
3. 800 and 900 div are thrown in anywhere in between (however, I imagine
if they have a brother division, that they would go with them).900 div
usually goes on Mon
4. Anywhere from 2-4 divisions can go per night. Why sometimes 2 and sometimes 4- who knows.
5. BS is from 8:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m.
6. You will get your calls between 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
After the capping ceremony in the a.m., they have to clean the ship, eat, shower, etc

Not all the new Sailors call home...some have other duties, have to stand
watch, if they are honor rcts or award winners have to practice for PIR

So when you get your call ask if everybody in the div passed and then post it here

Directions to Great Lakes

Naval Station (NAVSTA) Great Lakes and Recruit Training Command (RTC) are located approximately 35 miles north of Chicago, in the far northeastern corner of Illinois. The Wisconsin
state line is approximately 16 miles north of NAVSTA/RTC.Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, Naval Station Great Lakes, is home to the U.S. Navy's only Recruit
Training Command. NAVSTA  Great Lakes is also home to 19 of the Navy's technical service schools. Since its founding in 1911, the Naval Station has prepared men and women for duty in Naval service.

From the south (Chicago):

Take the Kennedy expressway I-90/I-94 WEST, towards Wisconsin. At the I-90/I-94 split. Stay to the right and take the Edens Expressway I-94 NORTH towards Wisconsin. Take Exit 29 (left)
for US 41 NORTH for approximately 12 miles. Turn right on Buckley Road (IL 137 EAST). The  entrance to Recruit Training Command is 1.3 miles ahead on the right, past the Veterans Administration hospital.

From the north (Wisconsin):

Take I-94 SOUTH. Exit (left) for US 41 SOUTH just beyond the Wisconsin/Illinois border. Continue south on Route 41 for approximately 15 miles. Turn left on Buckley Road (IL 137 EAST). The
entrance to Recruit Training Command is 1.3 miles ahead on the right, past the Veterans Administration hospital.

Please note:

All visitors are required to have a valid vehicle gate pass prior to entering the base. If you are attending graduation, your vehicle gate pass must be downloaded from the "Upcoming
Graduations" list. The direct link is: http://bootcamp.navy.mil/upcoming_grads.asp. The vehicle gate pass will be available beginning 11 days prior to your graduation date. A password is required that your recruit provided in a form letter sent home during the first week of training. All other guests must first visit the Pass and ID office (building 6130) located at the main gate for Naval Station Great Lakes. Continue on Buckley Road past the entrance to RTC. Travel under the Metra rail overpass and turn right onto Sheridan Road. The Pass and ID office is located approximately 0.2 mile ahead at the next light, just north of the main gate.

The schedule for Grad Day!

Please be aware that it can take 30+ minutes to park, get through base security, and walk to the drill hall by 8:45 a.m.

6:30 a.m.
RTC Gates open to visitors.

Security screening begins.

7 a.m.
Visitors begin walking to drill hall.

8:45 a.m.
Guests should be in seats.

9 a.m.
Recruit graduation commences.

9:20 a.m.
Divisions arrive at drill hall.

9:45 a.m.
Arrival honors.

10:30 a.m.
Ceremony concludes.

10:35 a.m.
Liberty Call. Recruits meet with guests at drill hall. Recruits and guests transit back to parking area.

8-9 p.m.
Liberty expires for recruits.

Please drop your recruit at the base early enough for them to walk back to their ship.

Some divisions may depart Recruit Training Command a few hours after graduation (Grad and Go). Some divisions may depart RTC the day after graduation. Please discuss liberty with your recruit during their phone calls home. Be sure to ask when they are departing bootcamp for their next school. Continue to write your recruit and stay informed. Recruit Training Command Public Affairs does not have your recruit’s schedule. Only your recruit and his/her supervisor know their
specific liberty schedule.

(REMEMBER - PIR 10/08 also has the following Monday as Liberty because of Columbus Day)

Both in my SR's letter and in his phone call on Saturday, he said div 339/340 are scheduled for Oct 7th to Oct 8th. Cutting it REALLY close! He mentioned they have 'one chance' only before PIR. That boy is going to need some serious R and R after liberty call! LOL

Do you think they were told that because they were having problems in that DIV and it is just to scare them? I am wondering if they go on Tuesday into Wednesday or Wednesday into Thursday but not going to tell them until it is time?

Latest update is 337, 338, 339 and 340 will be going on Wednesday into Thursday. I've been informed that the BS21 being done Thurs into Friday is for the 10/15 PIR group. I think that makes more sense. Sadly, if anything goes amiss with my SR, we won't find out until we are already in GL at our hotel! Praying for strength, sanity, and a little fair winds right about now! Hugs to all

I would be willing to bet that they told them Thursday, meaning that it would end on Thursday and the guys thought it meant Thurs ---> Fri. Most of them don't have calendars or much sense of the time passing so maybe that is where the confusion comes in? My sr said that it seems like time has flown by and it's only been days whereas it seems to me like it's been months, not weeks.

next to our grad date, there is a click here. Click that and enter the password that is on our recruits initial form letter. That will bring up the pdf file of the gate pass.

if i dont have a vehicle and just using the shuttle or walking from my hotel do i still need the gate pass?
