Hi Ladies and Gents (too) !

Just moving this discussion over from the Leaving from Boot Camp in August Page since it makes more sense to have it hear now!

Please join so we can all stay together and support each other through this!  Has anyone in this group received a letter or phone call yet?

I'm still waiting on that letter. Being in Florida might be making the difference right now. but I'm trying to be patient-not doing a very good job :)

Woohoo ~ I got a letter from my son today. He sounds really good, says he passed his 2nd PFA (90 push ups, 90 some sit ups, & ran 1 1/2 miles in 10:50 min.), He passed both his personal inspection and weapons turnover inspection with a 100%, He said tomorrow (meaning Fri 9-17) he does live fire, (shoots a 12 gage shot gun and a 9 mm pistol) he said he hopes to get at least a sharp shooter on that, because then he would get a ribbon. He said he should graduate with at least 2 ribbons. One for war on terror and another for weapon qualification. He said from what he hears his div. is Grad & Go. He says idk what that means. He wants me to look it up for him and send him info on it. I don't think he has any clue that he's going to be able to spend the entire weekend with us, as long as he doesn't have watch duty since he is staying in GL for schooling. Does anyone know where I can print info out about Grad & Go, so I can send him some info about it. Poor kid probably thinks he's not going to get to spend time with us. Little does he know, that he's going to be able to sleep over at our hotel. He also confirmed too that they are in their "Hell Week" now.
Hell week meaning this week? Is this the week of the gas chamber then? Grandson graduated boot camp in 2007(army) and has said that the gas chamber is the worse thing he has ever gone through, but the Navy many be different. They also had to walk 14 miles with all their gear on their backs. But again, that is the Army. jUST WONDERING WHAT OUR GRANDAUGHTER MAY BE GOING THROUGH THIS WEEK AT GL.
My sons letter arrived in todays mail, and was written on Thurs. 10/16. He said he was going to the gun range tomorrow (meaning Fri.) And then mentioned that this week was "Hell Week". I'm not sure when their weeks start? But I believe they are in Hell Week right now. And I think you're correct, that Hell Week is the gas chamber and fire fighting. I think their is a discussion about what they're doing each week at the top of this group.
Guess I couldn't find where you were talking about.
Grad-n-go for sailors staying in Great Lakes doesn't really mean anything other than they start A school on the following Monday. BUT for my son who's A school is in Pensacola, Fl. it means we only have Friday with him because he flys out of town at 2:00 A.M. Saturday morning.........wonderful..
I am pretty sure my son is a grad and go too and he mentioned in his last call that he thought his flight was at 2:00 a.m. also!!
look in the discussions above, click on view all. It's titled What are they up to, week by week. Hope this helps ioi
That's super Karen, sounds like things are going great for him after a hard start. I hope you will be able to spend the weekend with him since it has been so long since you've seen him - much longer than the rest of us. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Kelliq~yes, he sounds really good in his letter. We will be staying in GL until Tues morning. I'm hoping he's able to stay with us the whole weekend overnights since he is staying in GL for A school. From what I've heard he'll have to check in at A school and move everything over to A school after PIR, Which can take up to five hours, then he'll be released to us for Liberty until Mon. night, provided he doesn't have watch duty at some time during the weekend.
Happy Saturday everyone - it's less than 2 weeks now! Got another letter a couple days ago but still didn't talk too much about the division and the stuff he's said is the same as what everyone else is saying. I guess that's good. He's been on light duty because of his ankle so that has limited him. He thought he would be cleared to full duty on Tuesday and I haven't heard anything since then so that must have happened. The only thing he will say about grad and go is that he's heard the rumors but that we should wait til he gets his orders to know for sure. Still would really like a call :)

Hope it is dry where you are. We are very close to the area that has been on the national news about the heavy rain and flooding. Thank goodness we are a few miles north and have lots of water but not to that magnitude. It's amazing what even 25-50 miles can make.

Take care.

Kelli
Hi Kelli!
Good to hear from you and I am sure you were happy to hear fromyour son! I got a letter too this week; however, my son said he has been "very sick" and probably will go to medical. But then in another line he said he was doing well and was a section leader and really wanted to do a good job at that. UUGGGHHH:....not very clear....but I guess no news is good news so far!!!

We just went through a major hot spell this past week - we live in eastern Ohio so that was a nice thing! No rain but we normally get just regular stuff.

Glad we are on the "downhill" slide with thie basic training!!!

Take care!
Maribeth
Hey Ladies, I havn't heard anything new from my recruit since my last post. I hope things are well with our boys and the division. I continue to worry about my sons foot, and hope he passes his final run. As do I hope all our recruits pass all their requirements to be able graduate. We are coming down to the final countdown now, and I'm looking forward to meeting you all at the Meet & Greet.
