DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Thanks Jimbo!  We were told that driving from Milwaukee is about 45 min compared to an hour+ depending on traffic from Midway.  Also we were told by others on here in earlier groups that car rental is cheaper.  Thanks for sharing that!

Good Morning Everyone!

TNVolFanMom:  Just remember that the mail is held from them for the first 2 weeks until the Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained.  They usually get this on a Sunday, after they have written their letters to you (hence, the reason they may ask you why you haven't written!  They will receive your letters right after mailing out their own).  They will be allowed after that to write once a week (collected on Sunday, mailed out on Monday) but will receive mail M-F.

Hi, everyone! No box or letter yet, but I should be in this group...lol! My son shipped 13AUG.

Tailea, You WILL want a car. Just a taxi from O'Hare is over $60.

FYI, I lived in the Chicago suburbs for 20 years. I went through RTC Great Lakes, as did my daughter and now, my son. If anyone has any questions about the area, feel free to ask. I'll help out however I can.

My first tip is: Try to avoid Midway Airport. If you are flying on Southwest or some other airline that doesn't go into O'Hare, consider Milwaukee instead. It's the same driving distance as Midway but with a lot less traffic congestion.

WOW, There are a lot of our SRs that have older brothers or cousins that are sailors. I don't recall the prominence of this 3 years ago.
