Hello all, happy Friday evening! I wanted to pass along an airport alternative that saved me lots of $$$ - Milwaukie. I understand it's a bit further, but the trafic's a lot easier so the travel time isn't much more. If you haven't booked already and aren't sure, you might want to check it out. I would never have thought of it if one of the travel websites didn't suggest I fly there instead. Good luck making your plans! Now, I'm just sitting around waiting for the first real letter...and getting REALLY tired of waiting for that "no news is good news" that I definitely agree is a love/hate thing. Can't wait to hear when you all start getting letters, and more PIR stories, PLEASE (I think that was in this group? =D!

I really didn't want to leave this group.
giosmom, I also made my reservation at the Navy lodge. I liked the price. Now,, I'm trying to find a flight that is a good rate. I hear that O'hare is not the onlt airport in the aea. Any ideas as to which one would be the easiest to get from airport to PIR?
What is the weather like mid Oct? If it is nice, what about a picnic on Friday?

Hello "Wade142"! My son's in div 363 as well. We were lucky to get a quick 30 second call, although he didn't sound well. I think he was pretty stressed and maybe in shock a bit? We received our form letter on Monday so yours should arrive really soon. It had four lines and was a great treat to help us persevere. I would definitely recommend sending a calling card, just in case it makes the call possible! I started a discussion for our division under Boot Camp Moms, but not much activity. Please join in so we can share stories when we finally start receiving letters and calls.

Ok, I really don't care about 2 weeks, 4 weeks or any other number, I just want to talk to my son! or receive his form letter with his personal message. I keep trying to call him and let him know I'm on my way, only to stop and realize, he's not in school anymore. Then I ralize he's not in his room or on the sofa bugging his sister to my breaking point. Is it Oct 16th yet?

Thank you jordonsmom. I booked at the Navy Lodge, but I will be at the Ramada for the meet and greet. I want to meet all my friends here. I have learned so much from everyone here, as well as shared so much. As for me, I am a hugger only to friends, so, yes, I will be hugging all my N4M friends. I will also have my camera. Do we need to RSVP, ar just show up in my Navy Mom T-shirt, with my Navy Mom hat, and my Navy coffee mug. I even have a Navy flag to fly in my car window!

MB Jane, I am so glad you heard from your son. I bet it is a hard to adjust to not being able to eat when ever. My son can eat 5 hotdogs and then ask, what's for dinner!!! I have already noticed a change in my food bill!

Does a school ID count? I have a 14 year old going.
I am getting upset. No form letter yet. If it weren't for Laurence's recruiter, I would not know anything about him.
One question I would like to throw out... Are we going to get together on Thurs. night before PIR?

Hello all,
I love the posts about stalking the mail people, and am taking note of birthdays before 10/16 so we can do some online birthday parties!
I posted last night that it takes a social to reserve at the Navy Lodge - something I think I read in our form letter. I guess that's not correct, so let me say a quick sorry for any confusion I've created! =D I would encourage everyone to consider the restrictions on the different travel sites. For me, I think I used Hotels.com to find different rates, etc. but then went to the hotel's own website to actually book the reservation. The advantage is that I don't pay in advance and I can cancel up to the day I'm scheduled to arrive (just in case I need to change the date or I find somewhere else I like better). I booked flights with Delta (Northwest) and found the best airfare is actually available to Milwaukie- that was a surprise to me! I'm still not certain about my hotel selection. I've reserved a one bedroom suite at the Homewood Suites for $75/night. I'd like the suite to have lots of room to hang out. I've heard the Residence Inn is good and may call to see what I can get, their online rate was a bit higher than my budget would allow -- but it is a bit closer! I have a question from the form letter that I'm hoping you all can help with. It said that anyone over the age of 12 needs to have a gov't issued ID. I have a 15 year-old daughter and I'm not sure what she'll need to get on base. Could anyone clarify what it takes?

I hope I get a letter today. I'm still stalking my mailman waiting for the form letter.
If my son writes to me like he willing talks, I may NEVER get a letter! I did write and tell him that it's ok for him to send me a birthday card from him. He will miss my birthday while he's away. :(
