I broke down and went with the least expensive. I just booked at the Navy Lodge. $65.00 per night. They asked my son's name and pay rate, as well as the nature of my visit. What I did not know is that the call is answered through a call center for all bases and all branches of the military.

I understand family can book at the Navy Lodge, with the recruit's social security number. I've booked a room at Homewood Suites in Lincolnshire. 10 miles away (farther than I had hoped) but it's a 1 bedroom suite with kitchen for $75/night. My motivation was low cost (relative to other hotels) with room for everyone to stretch out--I've read several times that recruits really treasure 1) a long shower 2) a leisurely meal, and 3) a chance to kick back and "chill". I'll probably post as a question on Boot Camp moms to see if anyone has feedback or recommendations for other hotels. Anyone here have any thoughts?

Tammy, I have not heard of the Navy Lodge. I was looking at Knight's Inn. It is $60.00 a night and 1 mile away. I am still looking.

For parking passes-do a search (google, yahoo, etc) of Navy RTC and it takes you to the Recruit Training Center official site. Go to families and upcoming graduations and you'll see a list of all the grad dates with the divisions in each. The next two (?) dates will have active links to print the parking pass. I don't think they'll activate the link for 10/16 PIR for a few weeks. I recommend you go to that website - it's a great source of official PIR info.

I've received the scripted 15 second call, the box with dirty clothes thrown into the box, but I'm still waiting for the "letter" I found myself rushing home to the mail box, but nothing. I am just so glad I have formed a relationship with the recruiter, and was able to call last week to get the ship and division.
I guess, I will rush home again today. I promise not to run red lights or stop signs to get home! lol

kari, I understand about money being tight. I am a single parent who also teaches. I am trying to plan a PIR weekend on a budget. I found a hotel 1 mile from the base and gives weekend rates of 60 a night. I don't know what I'm getting for the price, but as long as it has a clean bed and bath, I'll be happy. Now for airfare. Im not driving ever again to Il. if I can help it. 16 hours from my house to Savoy Il. Great Lakes is even further north than Savoy!

Well, I didn't receive a letter, but I know from the Navy website that according to his ship and division, he should PIR 110-16-09, so I guessI am on the right site! lol
majicmom, my son is also Ship 13 Div. 364. My son'd nickname in high school was "Sunshine" In fact, no one calld him by his name, but not because he is from the sunshine state, but because he reminded of the charactor, Sunshine from the movie "Remember the Titans" I started a discussion for others of Ship 13 DIv. 364 in bootcamp moms. Did you know that our boys are in an intergrated division? That means that it has both males and females.

I was on my home from church and received a call from "Unknown" When I answered, there was nothing. I'm still wondering if it was from my favotite recruit. I guess I will never know. If a call does not go through, do they get a second chance to call? Also, do they get to call home this early into basic training?
Comment by Margaret_ProudTexasMomof2Sailors on August 29, 2009 at 10:05pm
Intergrated means that both males and females are in the same division. I was assured that even though they are in the same division, they sleep in different quarters.
