~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Tara22, thank you for sharing the "some days are better than others..." By Author Unknown. It is so completely how I feel. I knew this would be hard but I had no idea how hard. When I missed my sons call on Saturday I could hardly breathe. But spending time on this site each night has really helped.

Can the ones going to A school at GL have overnight liberty?
We are flying from the west coast and staying the weekend.

devinjotyler:  We are hearing that some RDCs are telling the SRs this....that they are NOT allowed at Navy Lodge.  So not true...I checked with PAO at RTC about it.  What could be confusing these particular RDCs is that at Navy Gateway Inn, which is located on the A School base, those moving over there for A School DO need a special chit to visit family at Gateway....since Gateway is off limits to current A School students normally.  Navy Lodge is not on base....it is about a mile from RTC in the housing area.  So there are no restrictions there for sailors visiting family staying there....and all families with an SR are entitled to stay there.

Comment by diannep on September 9, 2014 at 6:43pm

Navy Lodge is available to all going to PIR courtesy of your SRs!  You book in your SR's name....he/she may need to stop by the front desk during Liberty to confirm, but you can definitely checkin without your sailor being there.

I know my daughter is in 340 and it it coed.
Comment by Dennis on September 9, 2014 at 5:20pm
Ship 12 div 339 is that a coed division?
Comment by devinjotyler (SHIP 13 DIV 342) on September 9, 2014 at 3:51pm

It was my understanding that navy lodge is only for active retired or veterans of the armed forces. Civilians are not allowed to

stay there. It that correct? It is also my understanding that SR are not allowed on the premises of Navy Lodge without a special Chit. Is that correct also?

You are very welcome, Tara22.  If he has outgrown his jeans, you may need to do some shopping at Gurnee Mills Mall, close by, after PIR!  :-)  Lots of sailors in uniform hanging out there!

Just remember, ladies, it is NOT too early to make travel arrangements, especially for hotel rooms.  If you book direct with them (i.e., not through at travel discount site which may have its own rules), you can cancel either up to the day before or day of arrival if need be.  On the flights, if you book with Southwest Airlines to Milwaukee (shorter drive to GL, no traffic, cheaper car rental usually) or Chicago Midway (more traffic, about 20 min longer drive, longer in heavy traffic, car rental may be more)....you will be good to go!  They have no change fee if you have to change your flights (just difference in fare which could be cheaper!)....2 bags check for free.  They run one-way specials too so check those out!
