Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I've booked my flight & hotel for PIR. I'm so excited! It feels like I am actually counting down now. Before I had the info I felt like I was in limbo.

Yes, they can write letters when lights out (they have red lights they can write under)....but they won't be able to mail out until Mondays (collected on Sundays).

Got a call from the recruiter and he told me that he thinks that my son is in division 338 not sure of the ship number yet.  If this makes anyone feel any better he said that by now they have gotten through all of the P days and by now should be all the testing (like eye test, phyical, dental and all that) they should also have had their shots (sounds like Im talking about a puppy) and should be ready to start tomorrow with their first real workout and pre-physical testing.

The recruiter also told me that they all should have written letters this past Sunday and we should get them soon. They are in their permanent bunks and this is where they will remain. He also told me that they get mail everyday but can only write on Sundays but some write letters after lights out.

Karen - Im with you!  I need a long time too.  We will make it though.  We just have to stick together! :)

Calls are totally random.  They may tell you they will call a certain day, and then they don't....they can "lose" calls (a whole division can through one SR's mistake!)....or they could have had watch and missed the calls.  Also, they can earn calls....so just keep your phone near you at all times....including in the bathroom and when going to get the mail.  If you missed a call and there was no message, it could have been a "supervised" call where they needed info from you---they are not allowed to leave messages during these calls.  If they are making a personal call, they usually leave a message.  The longest call is usually the I'm a Sailor call, which you will receive within the last week of Bootcamp!
