OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

We got a double letter from our son who is in 951 yesterday, he got all 4 wisdom teeth taken out and said that he is on ships staff with 5 other recruits in his division.

My sailor daughter:  Prayers that she will do well on the test this next time!

Comment by diannep on October 1, 2015 at 7:47pm

Oh boy, JayDee.....that is awful.  Maybe when she comes home for Christmas break (if she takes Leave then), you can take her back to her dentist to check it if still bothering her.  Out of pocket cost, I know, whereas her dental care is free with the Navy....but maybe she would feel more comfortable.  Or....maybe the filling will "settle down" and not bother her?

Angela  LOL  Yes I love Thursday too!!

Comment by JayDee659 on October 1, 2015 at 5:27pm
Me too, me too! I love Thursdays now. Mine says she's doing well. A little concerned as a tooth is bothering her. When she got there they took out a composite filling that she had and replaced it with silver. They told her her original filling was bad even though our dentist checked it all a couple days before she left. Now the silver is lighting her up and she really doesn't want to see that dentist again. I feel bad for her but she has to make her own decisions.
