@newhorizon: I have a feeling you will get your form letter in the next few days. There is no one else who it could have gone to, right? When you get it, look on the inside and you will see IN YOUR RECRUIT'S HANDWRITING where he has written in the guest names. The recruits will be given a chance to finalize the guests' names before PIR...but can't change them within 2 weeks of PIR. BUT remember...if there are "extra guests," most usually get in. Only the ones on the list are "guaranteed" to get into the hall though. If you do not have the letter by the end of next week, call the Public Affairs Office 847-688-2405 But I have a feeling you will get it soon.

I just got our form letter in the mail when I got home. My kids are so thoughtful even as tired as they were. One mailed his letter addressed to me and the other mailed his letter addressed to his dad. FYI Newhorizons Grad date is 1-7-11 and our names are listed on the attendees list on that letter.

They might not have cried if they talked to their dad. My kids are sensitive and have not been away from home much and we are all very close. Hope no one thinks they are pansies for crying. I think it may have been that they were talking to me and when they are busy they really don't have time to think about it.

Well the other one called about 20 mins later for the same info. He is my much quieter boy and the person whose desk he was calling from sat there while we were talking so he couldn't talk much. They both say they are doing ok but homesick. A bit of crying but not much more just choked up. I did not cry as that would make it worse for them. The one says the physical part is not hard but he is just homesick. This is only week one so hopefully that will get better soon. He did say they do not have much time for anything and he does get to talk to his brother but not much. Tired also.

I wonder if it would have been better for the Navy person to call me. Maybe they realized it was their birthday and let them call for that info? Would they consider something like that?

One of my sons just called me from BC. I was so worried that it was something bad! It seems they both need another reference for their Single Scope Background Investigation. I talked about 5 mins with him and he cried a couple of times saying he is homesick but doing ok. He really cired when I told him Happy Birthday but cheered up when I said how proud we are and he can do this with no problem and we will see them soon. Since they both need another reference I may get to talk to the other one too. My heart is breaking right now for them but so proud at the same time.

As bad as things seem while they are there, especially the first few weeks. It does get better and they often say it wasn't that bad. Of course that is after the fact. Lol

I don't think any of us were brave enough to send musical cards lol. We heard too many stories of them doing pushups until the battery died or the rest of the division having to do them too. The sailors do know where their friend live and paybacks can be brutal lol. And one mom sent brownies and got a letter back from the SR with a message from the RDC saying how great they were. He and some other RDC's ate them while the recruits did pushups. Lol

rickysmom: Be sure to compare the recruiter's address for him with the form letter address. Sometimes they are different (the form letter one is correct). The letters will get to him, but may take a bit longer if sent to the wrong address.

Yes, grocery store trips are very hard with children in bc! A HUGE reminder that they are gone...

NicolasIves: You will get the form letter soon if you just got the box. It should get there in the next week. It will have lots of info in it including address, PIR date. Don't lose it! You will need this info, especially the password to download your gate pass at the end of bc.

Nicolas Ivs3bc: Your SR is the one who can change the names of the PIR guests. They update that list and then cannot change it within the 2 weeks of PIR.
Yes, children under 12 do not count as part of the 4 guests, but they will need ID (birth certificate is good).
