Hi all...welcome to the journey of your life...I am newest old mom to join the crowd...but looks like you have a great mom onboard in Lydia...seems to me she has answered a few questions for me in the past...I am the emotional cheerleader...

Just got back from PIR...we had 167 at our Meet and Greet...closed down Anastasias to public traffic...they had to buy my dinner cause they bet me I'd have less than 50...they didn't know my group...lol...I told them...never doubt a Navy mom....it was funny...these folks will be your strength and your stronghold...you will laugh together, cry together, worry together, and even get mad together...my son got pneumonia at the very end...was forced to change divisions and nearly missed PIR...my whole group was ready to take the RDC out behind the woodshed....it was pretty funny...so put on your seatbelt and get ready for the ride....

Here are a few extra commandments to live by:

1) Thou shalt never use thy recruits first or last name or picture...because RDCs can and will read what you write

2) Thou shalt never complain about an RDC because your recruits division can and will pay the price.

3) Thou shalt never send cards that are battery operated even if it is your recruits birthday or anniversary. One division in our PIR group had to do pushups until the battery ran out....not funny!!

4) Thou shalt not send risque or "hottie" pictures in your letters...they go up on a bulletin board for all to gaze at!!

5) Until you know for sure...send only letter or cards with normal amounts of postage and white envelopes and no newspaper clippings or real pictures...scan them and put them on computer paper so that your recruit doesn't get into any trouble...while this seems silly...some have to do eight counts for every penny over the normal amount of postage...again not fun!!

6) Thou shalt not write anything upsetting to their recruit...they are under too much stress...they don't need anymore!!

Finally, no matter what anyone else tells, write, write, write...everyday...it keeps their spirits up !!!

becki - that is fine go right ahead Ill be here anyway for my buddys buddy and his mommie.... let me know when you do it.

Timetable for you:

"Kid in a box" w/out kid=usually received within the 1st week after recruit leaves for bc

Navy PIR form letter=received within 2 weeks of recruit leaving usually

1st letter from recruit=usually about 3 weeks after they left for bc. They are not allowed to write home right away.

Your letters to your recruit (with recruiter address)=these will be held from your recruit for the first 2 weeks of bc....so don't be surprised if your first letter from your recruit asks why you haven't written? By the time you get their letter, they most likely have your letters....all at once!

processing days=first week to10 days of paperwork, med/dental exams, etc. Then the actual first day of bootcamp training will be numbered 1-1 (week/day). If you get a call or letter by chance during processing days (I did since mine was there for Thanksgiving last yr and was able to call), they may say it isn't bad, all is good, etc. Mine even said that they didn't yell much at all. Well, then bootcamp started. He retracted that "didn't yell" statement! So don't get discouraged if the first letter expresses being homesick, discouraged, frustrated, etc....it is all part of the breakdown process to build them into sailors. By middle of bc, it is so much better...PIR is in sight for them and they get excited! Still tough training, but they are much more focused.

Hope this helps!
