for
~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Rhonda, If your Sailor is staying on GL for A School you will have all weekend with them (Friday is a late liberty), from approx 6am to 10pm (times vary).
If your Sailor is flying out for A School, you will have Friday after PIR until approx 8pm, and they will likely fly out on Sat. You can meet them at the airport, get a gate pass, and sit with them at the gate until their flight leaves.
What are the chances?? That the one time I leave my cell phone for a few minutes our SR would call?!? Apparently the chances are good, cause that's what happened yesterday :( He did talk to his dad and his spirits were high so that's all good, but the moral of the story is keep your phone attached like an extra body part (even after 6pm)!
Nuke&SnipesMom- you're the only one having a hard time keeping track... Just kidding! I don't know how ANYONE could be on top of all these screen names, etc! I think we should definitely put our N4M names on our name tag under our real names!
All sailors will have their departure info by the time you see them at PIR. Be sure to get the airport they will depart from (they leave from 2), date (although day after PIR is the normal departure day, some may not depart until the next day) and their flight info. Some in the past have dropped off their sailors at RTC on PIR night, then returned to the hotel to sleep, getting up in the wee hrs to meet them at the airport. Once your sailor gets to the airport, if any of his/her shipmates have family already there, maybe some will borrow cell phones and call their families to say they are there. But most families will just go to the airport and wait on their sailors if necessary. Sarge will have more info on this at his MeetandGreet.
JAK: If you are unable to to go the airport, you can ship the items to your sailor at A School. My son went to A School with no personal items and he was fine! I shipped his phone to him a week later. In the meantime, he was able to call me using the remainder of his phone card or a borrowed cell phone.
The sailors bus to the airports very late on PIR night or in the wee hours. They all check in around 3 a.m. or so....some will be flying out in just a few hours, others will wait most of the day, and even others will fly in between that. Yes, you must trade off personal items there at the airport. Those staying in GL for A School can return from Liberty with you with these items.
It is my understanding that SR's are not able to take their phones/electron devices back to the barracks after liberty on the 6th. (I get it) I was planning on giving my SR his phone at the airport after he leaves RTC. I have read different scenarios of when SR's are brought to the airport to ship to A School. Given the fact that our window for possibly evening seeing our SR's at the airport could very small or even non-existent as they may be leaving for the airport in the wee hours and leaving before they have a chance to let us know, how is everyone else planning on getting their SR's devices to them? Thoughts/Ideas, please.
Nuke&SnipesMom: That is an excellent idea on the N4Moms screen names and has been done by many other PIR groups! Other ideas from previous groups: Those in a specific division wear a specific color PIR ribbon or scarf. Or like you said a color for the whole PIR group who participate on N4Moms!
