WELCOME TO PIR 11/09/2012!

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Good Morning Ladies!

Milwaukee is an easier drive to GL as it is basically straight down the interstate and takes about 45-50 minutes.  We drove it in the middle of rush hour and had no delays at all.  Just remember that it's important to leave yourself enough time for your own flight home, if you go to the airport with your sailor for their departure to A school.  We suggest that you try to stay in GL, if possible, until at least Sunday.  Your sailor will be flying out of O'Hare or Midway, so there is pretty much a 99.99% chance that they won't be flying out of the same airport (I never say 100%, but who knows, things could always change, lol).

is it better to fly into Milwaukee, WI or chicago Midway?  what is the distance for each does anyone know?

The answer to the Holiday Liberty question for GL A schoolers is:

...it's possible...but no guarantee. There is just no set pattern or assurance of it for me to say "yes, they will".

Example (mine was a fly out not GL A school but this is an example of how it can change from year to year): My sons PIR was on Memorial Day Weekend. We had PIR on Thursday. He was supposed to leave Friday and that is what I anticipated. BUT I booked through until Sunday on the off chance that he would get extra Liberty. He called on Tuesday two days before PIR while I was flying over there and said that his orders were that he would not leave until Sunday now and he had those extra days of Liberty. He would remain on RTC for those days and was under their Liberty Policies. That was 2011.

2012...Memorial Day Weekend PIR was as is on a Friday...and I would have to check fly outs but I believe it was the norm for most, Saturday.

There is always the chance for those flying out to A schools to get an extra day of Liberty. This is because they fly commercial and it relies on flight availability and possibly the school.

GL A schoolers. Here is the link to the Note for Abridged Phased Liberty Policy from TSC GL FB:

STUDENTS ARE REMINDED THAT ANY LIBERTY IS RECINDABLE BY THE COMMANDING OFFICER AT ANY TIME.  A FULL COPY OF THIS INSTRUCTION IS AVAILABLE AT ALL TSC BARRACKS LOCATIONS.

I believe each Ship/Div is different even though they have the same PIR. I'm still waiting for my first letter. Hopefully it comes this week :D
