WELCOME TO PIR 11/09/2012!

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

He seemed okay! But he definitely made it clear how difficult it was...he said he felt like he was in school, but it was part school part prison lol. It only makes me miss him so much more. So i assume this is our start of getting letters weekly as long as they write??

That is awesome  Juliette (Ship 14 DIV 368)! I can't wait til I got one! Has anyone got a letter from SHIP 04 DIV 823?

Comment by Juliette on September 27, 2012 at 9:08pm

FINALLY got my letters today! 8 pages of his day to day and how much he misses me and can't wait to call me to hear my voice. I seriously sobbed the second I put them down, then called my mom crying lol - I'm so happy and sad all at once!

karens, my sons PIR was Labor day weekend. It was also the weekend that Pensacola was hit with the effects of the hurricane so the base was evacuated. My son flew out early Sunday morning. It didn't seem to matter that it was a holiday weekend. I think if it hadn't been for the evacuation they may have left  on Saturday morning. BUT it's always better to book on the hopes that he will get a longer liberty. We had planned on leaving early Saturday but when my son heard that he made sure he stretched out everything we did so we would stay at least until Saturday night. It was still hard to watch him walk down the drive towards his barracks when we dropped him off.

mazzy:  Do you already have your flights?  Car rental (and many times, flights) usually is cheaper when flying into Milwaukee WI.  It is only a 45 minute drive to GL, with no traffic either (lots of traffic in Chicago).  If you don't have flights yet, you may want to check that out.  Southwest flies into Milwaukee, no change fee, first 2 bags checked for free.  They also fly into Chicago-Midway.

Okay, good to know. Thank you Ellen! I'm going to be searching high and low. I've been quite obsessive when it comes to planning this trip lol.

Comment by ellen0502 on September 27, 2012 at 4:35pm

When you are looking at car rental make sure you calculate hours too. You may find when your plane lands and you state you want to pick up the car immediately following it may be calculating an extra day charge from when you want to leave. For example staying at the airport an extra hour or so and having lunch before you rent the car, or returning the car an hour earlier, may be just enough time to remove the extra day.

It can be a game sometimes to figure it all out

Ih wow thanks diane and ellen. For some reason every quote i tried was 250 total for 3 days. Ill keep looking though.
Comment by ellen0502 on September 27, 2012 at 4:25pm

mazzyhopefan, Most taxi services (except Sarges I think) charge an additional passenger fee on top of the trip charge.Like diannep said, check out the car rental it may surprise you. One taxi ride for all of you could easily end up costing you more than a days car rental.

We had five plus our sailor, and for two of the five days we were there we had two cars. Our total charge for the both cars was only $250 plus change and we had the freedom to move about as needed.
